I think it is every 10 or 15k? Depending on where you live... pollen can destroy these filters too, you will notice a difference in air quality. I say just change it with every oil change, 10k miles. I order an oil filter and cabin filter together. It keeps me honest with my maintenance to do things like this all at the same time.

I don't knock you b/c that's all audi calls for, but doing an oil change every 10k blows my mind.

Cheap enough to do it annually. Why wouldn't you? 5 min to change also...

Never knew how often it's changed, but since I have had the car for 24k miles (16 months) I already bought it. Super cheap on amazon

Anybody try those 'scented' cabin air filters? And for the OP, I'd change it every year, and then when I bought a used vehicle. You can pull it out in 2 minutes tops and inspect it. Anybody know if changing/inspecting the cabin air filter is part of Audi's CPO process? I would assume it is.

They changed my filter at the 15k service with cpo. Also said they will will flush my break fluid on the next service. That was a nice surprise.

Buy this MANN filter. I've bought and installed in my S4 and an A4.

Yeah - the Audi recommended service interval on cabin filters is every 20k starting at 15k. I think that's way too long unless you do 15k per year. I do about 8k a year so I just do it every year before winter during the fall...

Please don't use scented air filters... it's just gross... Those thing end up making the car smell like a taxi. If you keep your interior clean and the cabin filter fresh you will have a neutral smelling car... with a quality leather conditioner it will smell nice...

After reading the posts I replaced mine last night. It had been 14 or 15K miles since the last change (about 18 months). The filter was noticeably dirty and really needed to be changed. I agree with MrFunk that it's probably best to change it annually.

Bought one off Amazon. Took about 10 minutes to swap in the dark (first time). The old one, which I presume was changed 10k ago at the regular service was fairly dirty.

I understand. It's hard to wrap my mind around it too ;)
If you look at oil samples, your used motor oil is likely still some quality stuff when it comes to protecting your motor. For some time to come. If you really wanted to, you could probably just top your oil off with a half quarter every 15k and change the filter assuming limited burning. I bet the oil lasts for some 30k or so. There have been stress tests like this. I wouldn't do it to my vehicle nor recommend it. 10k miles on synthetic in modern blocks is a going trend. Oil manufacturers even have some products labeled for 15k miles. Obviously express oil or Goodyear service departments want you to come back in 3k for some reoccurring revenue.

As for the cabin filter, once every 4 seasons or 20k miles, which ever comes first IMO. I don't know that I would notice anything after 20k miles as long as I have not been through two springs. Carbon filters are worth the extra five bucks.
