    Help me identify this block

    Hello,

This block is supposedly off an RS4. Has been sitting in the corner of one garage for quite a while and if it truly is an RS4 block, then I'd like to grab it for my stroker build.
I asked the guy for pics, but did not get any good ones. Is there a possibility to inspect the block visually from these pics enough to tell if it truly is an RS4 block or not?
Staring long enought at one of the pictures, it seems there is a code 078 103 021 (or 071?) and then letters BL or something similar.
The pics sent are below. I don't mind that it looks like crap and dirty, since it has been sitting for quite a while. I take it it would be a good base for a stroker build if it truly is an RS4 block.
Not being lazy here, just mechanically challenged :) I searched quite a bit to find clues how to tell them apart, but found out it has better casting quality (supposedly), stronger webbing and other stuff that didn't seem to help me much at this point.
Thanks to anyone who bothers to give their opinion.

    Here are the pics:

At least for me, all the pictures you linked are the same.

Two engine versions were available of the RS4 block, the earlier ASJ and the later AZR.
Differences were the addition of another two lambda sensors on the later.

Engine code should be located on the flat surface of the cylinder block - right front cylinder bank

    ASJ from 06/2000 - 10/2000
    AZR from 11/2000 - 09/2001.

Its not an s4 block. The extra oil returns would make me think rs4.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Made a mistake with pics, now all the pics are not the same :)

I remember reading ages ago about oil returns difference also, but I am not able to tell the difference. Actually, the part where the engine code should be is dirty on the pic and unreadable.
I'll ask him to clean that spot and take a new pic. zillarob has given me some hope that this truly is an RS4 block :)

Yes that is an RS4 block. I'm 100% sure. Shame on someone who left it rotten like that!

Nice, thanks okkim. I'll go grab the block and hope someone won't beat me to it.
