Need help now before i go insane

Well I had a code for the steering angle sensor, and I took the top cover off of the steering column and noticed the ribbon cable for the clock spring was ripped off the plug. So I went out to my parts car and took the whole clock spring with the wiper stalk, cruise control stalk, and turn signal stalk and figured it would just be plug and play. After swapping everything I now have an ABS light, ESP light, AIRBAG light, and the light for the e-brake is flashing. I checked the codes and have a (01794) Control Module - Incorrect Chassis (VIN) Number 35-00 --

At this point im not sure if there is a way to recode this to my vin number or if I just need to spend money and buy a brand new clock spring. any help would be greatly appreciated!

You may need to re-code the ABS module and steering wheel. IIRC, when I swapped similar components on my car I had to do the same thing. They had defaulted to some other code.

You probably have to do come module coding adaptions with vagcom.

you have VCDS, how about checking ross-tech's site for the steering control module?

alright thanks a lot, ill try plugging the car in and seeing what I can come up with, I don't know If I would just swap the good clock spring frommy parts car on to the whole stalk set up from my car and see if the code will go away, either. ill go ahead and try both and see what else I can come up with

You need to have it relearn the VIN. In the Steering Wheel module:

Adaptation > Channel 081: Vehicle Data Learning

To start the process for vehicle data (VIN) learning, enter/save 00111 as new value.

That should take care of it. Good Luck.

well I successfully recoded the steering wheel control module but now I have more codes.

    00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (gG85)
    66-10 - Not Matched Intermittent
011044 - Control module incorrectly coded
    35-00

All of the lights are still on the dash, but there are no more fault codes under the steering wheel, but there are now these two codes under the ABS.

Im really getting sick of all these codes, any input?

Try clearing those codes first, but it seems like you might need to code your ABS/Cluster/ECU to match (perhaps something is coded to V6 and something else is coded to 4 cylinder). Just check everything and make sure they are all correct.

Once you get that squared away, final step is G85 steering angle calibration. This page has the info on recoding the ABS and G85 calibration:

    Nice work!

Once the snow flies, you have to try out that awesome ESP stuff. Get going like 15 or 20mph in a snowy Wal-Mart parking lot, and rip the wheel left real quick. Car will understeer like a boss, then ESP will kick in (yo!) and turn your car - as if by magic - using the brakes. It's pretty cool to behold. I, for one, think it's important that people try out their safety features (ABS, ESP, engine kill on push-button start cars, etc) so they know how stuff works when crap hits the fan.
