    Boost leak test.

Pretty sure I have a boost leak and wanted to make a leak tester as seen in a4mods. First off does anyone know what size pvc would slip inside of the intake pipe. Also I have a block off plate instead of the OEM pcv valve. Will the pressure test work with the plate? Having the block off plate does that mean I just don't have to block off the pcv valve?

    Here is a list:

    -90 degree 2" elbow
    -2" PVC cap slip
-Some kind of silicone sealant (I used gasket sealant and holds up fine)
-Stainless steel 3" x4" hose clamp

I also installed a Schrader valve on it to hookup a tire pump to it. But you may want a different fitting depending on what you plan on using

The 2" PVC elbow will clamp well to the hose accordion hose.

Okay I made the pvc test piece and pumped some air in but couldn't hear a leak. My boost gauge only shows like 4-6hg of vacuum. I would have though that with such low vacuum the leak would be obvious but I couldn't hear any leak. Could the block off plate be affecting this test?

Why would it show vacuum when you are pumping air into the system?

I meant I only show 4-6hg of vacuum when the car is running at idle, which leads me to believe I have a boost leak. When I did the test the car was off obviously, but didn't hear a leak. I was wondering if my block off plate would be affecting the test at all.

I finally got around to doing a quick boost leak test this weekend and the only place I noticed was a small leak between the intake manifold and the PCV breather hose. Is this normal/ok? I replaced it recently due to cracking the old one during my carbon cleanout.

I would check for a vacuum leak

That's exactly where mine is leaking. I replaced that hose and it still leaks...

Sorry I don't have a solution or advice; just wanted to chime in and say you're not alone. Hopefully someone has some insight for both of us.

The one thing I was thinking about trying is cleaning the inside of port on the manifold where the o-ring seals. Might be grimy not letting the o-ring seal properly.

Is there a way I can check vacuum/boost via vagcom?i I have access to a cable and want to double check my boost gauge reading. I think my boost gauge is off.

Yes, but you'll have to convert the number. The measuring block? Check your favorite search engine.

Yes you can even use OBD-II I believe, or at least my torque app + Bluetooth dongle supports it.

It's called Torque, most intuitive app for my our phones. If you have the iPhone you need the wifi version of the ELF Bluetooth dongle. Otherwise Bluetooth version is great

It must not be available for iPhone, I just checked the App Store. I have the dongle and last time I used the dash command app it said I was spiking at like 35psi which I definitely wasn't lol.

Could've swore the torque app doesn't work on theB7? Maybe a different app.

Take out intake and hook up PCV pipe to the intake tube. but i read that i have to remove the aluminum breather tube... but it doesn't say if I should plug the valve cover or the turbo or both??? also am i supposed to open up or remove anything else? please help!

Here's how I do it. I tried to make a DIY but the Audizine gods didn't like it I guess. Once you get this made, you put it on the hose coming out of the turbo. That way you don't have to mess with the check valve on the intake. Always remove the oil cap in case some boost pressure leaks into the crankcase and puts pressure on the crank shaft seals.

Most diys say to go through the intake pipe anyways, but some mention blocking the ports and most are vague about. So you're sure only the oil cap is necessary? I'm assuming you still have the check valve in your breather tube?

You only have to worry about the check valve if you are testing at the intake pipe to the turbo, thereby pressurizing the turbo and the check valve between the turbo and the valve cover. When you add the pressure at the turbo outlet tube, you are only pressurizing the system as it is designed. No pressure builds up on the turbo or the check valve tube that connects to it.

I would guess the other guys do it at the hose above the turbo because you don't have to remove the belly pan.
