2015/2016 North America Nav DVD's update -- why are there 2 discs?

I think this forum is for only the new R8, but I didn't see a forum for the old one, so I apologize if I am in the wrong place. My question is about the navigation update discs that I purchased from an Audi dealership. They are the latest updates for my 2010 R8 and the package contains 2 DVD's. One covers all of North America including Canada, Alaska and it even covers Hawaii. The other disc covers the northeast, the southeast, Canada and mid Atlantic. My question is -- why are there 2 discs -- especially when there doesn't seem to be a need for a second disk that contains only parts of North America -- while the 1st disc has everything.

Of course, the dealership does not know the answer to this question. My guess is that the update includes a regional disk as well as a whole North America (plus Hawaii) disc -- and that since the dealership is in Florida (as am I), that second disc covers only the areas I mentioned and therefotre has more room for additional points of interests (more restaurants, stores, etc.) because it has that many less maps. I don't know for sure, I just know there must be some reason.

Hey, I used to live in New Smyrna, small world. Not sure why there is two discs but you might need to upgrade your mmi software before you can do the maps. That's the way it works for us. Might want to check into that also.

Thanks for the reply. Disc 1 did the update and disc 2 was never called for. I can't think of any logical explanation except for my POIs on the limited map disc. It would be nice if the dealership knew, but that's asking for way too much I guess. Lol

That's not bad I suppose. I know they want an arm n leg to do the install at the dealer for the time it takes. You could have gotten the maps and mmi update for 200 here on AZ. Don't think you did to bad.

Yeah -- too bad I can't get my question answered though. I'm going to contact Audi customer service and see if they can get the answer for me. By the way, updating was nothing more than inserting disc 1 and letting it do its thing -- which took about 5 minutes only.

Are you sure the maps updated? The mmi update takes a out 5 minutes and the maps take a good while. My times are from reading from an sd card so it might be a bit quicker with cd's. Sorry I can't help you on your question. Hit up philip0001 in the thread I posted. He's the update guy here on AZ, he should be able to help ya.
