How is my aftermarket alarm installed?

    Hello!

Bought a just a used A4 Avant 1.8TS B5 -99 which does not have remote locking / alarm as standard. Instead, someone has installed an aftermarket alarm that I'm now trying to figure out how it works . Previous owner didn't even know it existed and didnt have a remote.
So the plan is to figure out what kind of alarm it is, and possibly try to acquire a remote so that I can get functional remote lock.

I have tried to find the "main unit" of the alarm but havent found anything. Do not really know where to look, it seems like everything is directly plugged into the car's electrical system.

Took some photos and put together an album, I hope you can check it out and maybe give some tips?

    grateful for help!

    Update:

Dug a little further, and far in the back I found the box! Here is a picture: http://i.imgur.com/rlpE93v.jpg

Seems to be the brand "Laserline" . And to get more info on this I must obviously find out what model it is... The problem is that it is really hard to get to, so I do not know how to get it out to see the model number...

    Update 2:

I finally got the alarm-module out, I just had to remove some relays.

Unfortunatly it doesn't say any model-type. Just a long serial number which is barely readable.
    Anyone recognizes this model?

I believe in North America all of these cars came with a factory alarm so this is usually not an issue here. I have never heard of Laserline but I did find a link to someone who sells parts for them... http://www.bridgwater-electronics.co...ne/c21#control Unless you can see clear markings or can find a link which will help you identify what model it is then you will need to unplug it and remove it so you can find a model number on it. If this were my car I would first trace every wire and make sure it is installed properly which is pretty rare in my books. Most of the stereo/alarm installs I have seen are hack jobs because most people don't want to pay for quality work. I would also look at the features and see if it is even worth keeping or if you are better off upgrading it to a nicer unit. You can get some nice alarms today for good prices with a lot of nice features including remote start and two way remotes so you always know what is up with the car.

When I do an alarm install I also plan it out and put the control unit somewhere else other than jammed under the dash with all of the wiring. It takes more wiring but it is much easier to work around and harder to find. Because you don't know where the fobs are I would also be a little paranoid and unless I can change the coding for the remotes or pair new ones while unpairing the old I would replace the alarm.

Does the alarm activate when you lock the car doors?
