    Air suspension and KW question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
First is about Air. Can you change how hard or soft the ride is at any of your chosen ride heights? So for example if you have it low but not slammed you can set it to be nice and soft or at the touch of a button change it at the same height to be solid or is it just dependent on your height?

    Next is KW

They do the DDC ecu I think it's called. With this can you change how soft or hard it is at your set ride height? If I got it right unlike the b16 ride control I had which is set on stiffness in the different modes with the kW you have 100 adjustments or something so at you set ride height you can have it really soft or really hard or anywhere in between and change it at the touch of a button so your not confined to "their" idea of comfort or sport set up?

    Hope that makes sense :)

OK, been researching and asking and it seems the KW DDC ECU setup can change the softness/hardness in 1% increments so can go from soft to solid and anywhere in between. Also, can do the front and rear independently of each other. HAs 3 stock settings, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ then in advanced is where you can change it to suit you.

    Now, can air do that?

In an air system, the air is your spring so lowering the pressure in the rubber balloon is the same as winding down the spring platform on a coilover. You cannot adjust the spring rate at different heights but if you have adjustable dampers then you can adjust the damping at different heights.

I'm actually pretty surprised you're considering an air system with you being a track day guy. Air systems aren't really a track day suspension setup, think of the increased weight of an air system and the limitations of the system. It's a nicer ride for sure so will protect your hemeroids but it isn't really a performance option.
The RS7 has the option of a coil and spring DRC suspension for the sports package instead of the usual air system.

A sensible choice for your driving style. Make sure they have the adjustability you're looking for and they aren't the same as the Bilstein iRC which are adjustable but it's only the switch over threshold you're adjusting, not the damping rate.

I have checked and spoke with a couple of people today. It is different to the Bilsteins I had and is fully adjustable in Advanced mode.

The PSS10 have 10 adjustable settings so it goes from very soft to rock solid and anything in between. I currently run 4 on the front and 5 on the rear which is a tad stiffer than the stock S5 sports suspension. 1 is very soft, too soft and 10 is for the track and not the road as its bone shaking lol.
