Oil consumption is number one. Look at the sticky on oil consumption, years 09-11 are the most affected

For me, the oil consumption didn't start occurring till after the warranty.

Run very far away from '09's, to many problems, spend a little more and get a 10 or 11.

Lol skip the 10 too!! 80-90k miles I had to replace a lil over 2400$ in parts and still have the timing chain and rear main seal to do. Couldn't imagine what labor would cost for all these parts.

Most 2009 2.0T cars were affected by the oil consumption issue, and the repairs were essentially solely done by Audi. If you call a dealership with the VIN of the car(s) you're looking at, they'll be able to tell you if stages 1 and/or 2 of the consumption fix were completed. If they weren't, run; you don't want to pay for that $4-6k repair out of pocket. If the repair was done, that aspect of the car should be fine. The other early-build issues were control arms which caused a vibration at high speed, and a power steering hose that would cause the wheel to shudder during slow-speed parking lot maneuvers. These were covered by Audi under service bulletins. If a seller has proof that they were resolved or Audi confirms that the repairs were done, you'll probably be fine.

Other general issues that the B8s have are wheel bearings, coil packs (updated versions largely eliminated this one) and door lock solenoids as they age.

In terms of the actual car, definitely get Quattro, get a Prem+ or Prestige if at all possible, and I highly recommend the sports package (slightly lower sports suspension, 18 inch wheels, amazing sports seats, and a 3-spoke steering wheel). Also if you can find a manual and it suits your use case, get it... The driving experience is completely different with manual cars vs. failomatics.

I have an 09 and I love it! HOWEVER, I bought mine with complete service records dating back to day 1, and every single thing that has been mentioned here was already taken care of before I bought it, which is why I bought it. It's been fantastic too. But like the others said, stay away if those things have not been taken care of, especially the oil consumption issue. Mine had the engine rebuilt at 62k due to the oil consumption (luckily for the previous owner, he bought the car as a CPO, so all those issues were all fixed under the CPO warranty)

Definitely get a Quattro. Definitely get a premium plus or prestige if you can. and the sport package is totally worth it. But the service records are the absolute most important thing (and it being a quattro...dont buy a FWD!)

Yes. As I recall, the features of the Prestige sport package were essentially the same as for Prem or Prem Plus: 3 spoke steering wheel, sport seats, lower sport suspension, and, in the Prestige package, 19 inch sport wheels with summer tires.

I would echo Project Q's summary about the 09's. I've had the control arm, power steering hose, Stage 1 oil consumption "fix", and a new intake manifold to boot.

Your prospective purchase would potentially be covered by the 8yr/80k extended warranty offered as settlement of the oil consumption issue. Best to contact a dealer with the Vehicle VIN to confirm that it hasn't been disqualified from the coverage. Various mods are known to trigger disqualification, known in these parts as the dreaded TD1 designation.

Being an 09 it may even have 3.2 L motor. The only year it was offered.

If you have pictures of the side and interior, or a listing online, I can tell you if it has the sports package. Lower ride height, different seats and steering wheel make it pretty obvious.

OP bought a 2011 so he's probably in the clear, but I found out the hard way that this isn't necessarily true. If stage 2 was completed then yeah, you're probably good to go. But you're better off buying a car that has had none of the stages completed than one that had just stage 1 completed. Because for some god forsaken reason if you've had stage 1 completed and you're outside of the 80k mile extended warranty, you're absolutely screwed. Apparently this is a stipulation of the lawsuit settlement that they're absolved of doing any further repairs if this is the case. Technically they are also absolved of helping you if you're over 80k as well, but they don't seem to mind doing 'good will' repairs on cars that have never had stage 1 repairs done. Either one of these conditions seems fine, but both and you're boned.

Congrats on the new car, let's see some pictures!

8.5 inch wide wheels with a 35 offset will be just about perfectly flush. The stickied wheel gallery thread will give you tons of ideas for other fitments and different styles.
