nogaro 034 K04 stage 3 build and tip to 6 swap update

I'm about two week in. engines out. trans is off. flex plate off. adapter off. driver turbo off. damn passenger turbo manifold bolt closest to head stripped. breaking out the Dremel tool tonight to finish it off. here are some pics. this thing had 15 years of grease, dirt, oil, blood, road kill, and that stuff from the Spider-Man venom guy. still cleaning a lot off, but it's come a long way:

    SMIC removed

    engine out

    engine bay dirty

    engine bay first cleaning

    trans off

flex plate on top of trans and trans out

    leaky TC

replacing the RMS and cleaning all the turbo oil/coolant lines. then degreasing crevices and cavities surrounding the hidden parts of the block. RS4 clutch kit and new pilot bearing sitting here waiting for my trans swap kit to arrive then installing the 01E Tuesday night next week. finishing the motor off with a new timing belt and full gasket kit to stop ANY possibility for leaks. trans and engine mounts, mishimoto silicone hose kit to finish it off and then back she goes to her home. then, proper wiring for trans swap and onto cosmetic stuff in February. I'm a bit ahead of schedule, but damn this is tiring! I've been asking what seem like a lot of dumb questions on the forum, but truth is I'm very familiar with the engine and drivetrain. minus trans and electricals. thanks to everyone for your help so far! can't wait until she's done. sorry if the pics are upside down, not sure what's up with my uploading skills.

update on my build: both old K03's off.. cleaned up the lower engine quite a bit. they look better in person, but most of the alloy parts look almost new. K04's will be going in tonight. had to wait for a new rear main to be delivered tomorrow.

    old RMS

    RMS removed

K04's ready to go in with new hardware

one question I have if anyone knows: there are four O-Rings on the hardware kit from 034: two are black, two are alloy colored. anyone know where those go?

Hmm not sure what black o-rings you're talking about. I'm assuming the alloy ones are the ones that go in that groove where the turbo meets the exhaust manifold.

If you have pictures of the o-rings you're talking about then it will be easier to tell.

yeah I'll post them as soon as I get home. it looks like the black ones fit into the RS4 replica pipes, but on all ends, so not sure which is correct

that's the kit. I'm going to test fit the alloy ring in the turbo to manifold groove in a bit feel you're right on that. the other black seem like viton rings that fit into each end of 034's rs4 rep inlet pipes. can't tell if it's of the turbo outlet to piping or midway through the piping.

I'm sure I could change it if I found an issue post engine reinstall, but I'd rather just get it right as I'm putting it all back together

yes sir, so I got the K04's on tonight and the alloy ring was for the turbo to manifold. and then I looked in the old inlet pipes and sure enough at the end of the one that connects to the turbo is an o-ring so the viton rings go in the RS4 rep pipes.

I'll post as many pics as I can. I have hardcore ADD so once I get going I usually don't stop, but if there anything you want a pic of let me know. I've got the engine and trans out. 01E swap kit is supposed to be here Tuesday so it'll start going back together starting then. there's a lot of material out there on doing the engine pull, trans swap, turbo upgrade etc. you just never feel quite sure about what goes where until you confirm it a thousand times on these cars

That hardline above the rear main seal has an o-ring in it. i would replace it while you're there, esp if you removed it to get the RMS out.
