    Clutch Pedal Play

    Hello,

What's the normal play in the clutch pedal? I installed a new master(metal duralast unit) and the movement is about .75"-1" before I start to feel any pressure. I've re-bleed it but there was no change so I think that air isn't the issue. The car drives fine, I only noticed it when I shifted quickly the pedal lags a little bit the last inch.

I have a Clutchmasters 850. About the same experience you have. I believe it to be just the nature of the beast. You get used to it.

I recently changed the master and after extensive bleeding there was some significant play before engagement which went away in about a week of driving. I attribute it to some residual air left in master you just cannot get rid of except for thermal cycling or vibrations doing this for you with time.

The free play can also be caused by a slightly shorter stack height, this can happen when running a flywheel that has been resurfaced a few times.

As for bleeding, I found pumping the pedal a bunch of times between power bleeding helps to get nearly all of the air out of the system. I bleed my clutch line often seeing I am always taking my transmission out when I end up breaking it.
