    Your V6 3.0 got dipstick?

As an engineer, I can't stop improving things. As I still had my 1998 A4 V6 when I first got my 2012 S4, I test fit the dipstick into the supercharged 3.0. It fit with no issues and so I bought a '98 dipstick from Audi. As soon as the dealer changed my oil, I inserted the new dipstick and marked the full level by striking the dipstick with a cold chisel and hammer. I then copied the low mark to its new spot and trimmed off the extra. I has been two years now with no issues and I prefer to check the oil this way.

I bought the OEM dipstick which is plastic. I do not leave it installed in the engine so it it used only when checking the oil level. I also prefer to measure the oil level directly with a dipstick, but for whatever it's worth the oil level readout in the MMI display on my car seems to be in-line with the oil level shown on the physical dipstick as far as relative position between the 'Min' and 'Max' lines.

There have been arguments made that it is not wise to leave a completely plastic dipstick in the hot engine full time, but I have not seen anyone provide conclusive evidence that their OEM plastic dipstick has broken down or melted in the engine. On the contrary, various AZ members have reported that their plastic dipstick is still intact after having it installed for many years / miles driven. But I can certainly OP wanting to have a "tried and true" metal dipstick for zero dollars.

I bought the oem style dipstick from ECS tuning in 2010 for my 2010 S4. It has subsequently been transferred to my 2014 and current 2011. I have left it in the engine all the time with no apparent issue. BUT ECS also now has a dipstick with a metal shaft for those that prefer that.

My ECS dipstick has been in for over 5 years. No issues.

By the way, the new Porsche 911 engines are getting a plastic oil pan.
