Kind of getting board of the B8 and just seeing what you guys would get next for under $30K.........drove a few S4's and not overly impressed coming from a stage2 car, maybe a 335? those chip out really good and not that expensive to mod......
Stage 1 more than you RS3

335....going from an Audi to a Mitsubishi will be a huge step backwards.

Out of those, I'd go with a chipped 335. I'd like to buy a used RWD and have it along with the A4.

S4 since I really like how the supercharger responds compared to a turbo, that and the sound is amazing. Drove one and I really didn't feel any lag whatsoever. However since you said that you drove a few already, I would suggest a 335 for a change of scenery. Hard choice between the 2 imo.

Do you need AWD or are you ok with RWD?

For overall bang for buck and tunability, I would go 335i but only in the M sport package. So much more options for the e9x this platform than the S4 and a little bit more nimble of a car. They are also a couple thousand cheaper.

If backseat space is important, that may trump the 335i and push you into an S4. IMO, the e90 backseats suck compared to the B8 S4.

also depends... do you want a supercharged v6 or an inline single/twin turbo?

Big hell no to the EVO.

This question has me perusing youtube for S4 vs 335i for the past 20 minutes now. Really close races between the two, however it's hard to find a video that has 2 "even" opponents.

I did this from a B6 to an EVO VIII. It was hard, but because racecar, I was able to deal with it. I would say 335....

10/10 S4... any Mitsubishi will be a downgrade in terms of amenities, and personally I'm not a fan of BMW interiors.

Coming from a stage 2 A4, a stock S4 will feel similar. But a stage 2 S4 is relatively cheap to do and is another world in terms of performance.

I hear ya. I've thought of the same car at times but worry that it means I will look like old guy in crisis. Is it mandatory that corvette owners wear matching hats, coats and shirts?

Much better tuning options than GIAC with BMW. In fact, GIAC is not the preferred choice in that world. I'd look into JB4 or something like that. You will absolutely love the power of a tuned 335i. Love it! There are also so many cool BMW Performance parts with perfect fit and finish AND carbon fiber galore! All with OEM fit and finish since its BMW Performance.

The need for AWD was the main factor of me not buying the 335. The 335xi drives a lot worse than the 335i if we are talking about E90's here.

of those options the 335xi would be cool. have you considered a 987 cayman S? those should be in that price range as well and are a fantastic driving machine...not sure if you want to get a car nearly 10 years old though

This is tricky. I love the B8.5 S4.

I hate the look of the E90/E92 335i (Looks so bland without flared fenders), but the engine has massive tuning potential.
I love the look of the F30/F31/F32 335i, but from what I've read, the engine is more tame.

    Evo.....Nahhhhhhh

Given the above choices, I'd pick the S4. Although I'm eyeing an E90/E92 M3 for my next purchase.

I'd go off the edge and say evo for this.

Evo's will be a great investment, even more so than they already are. The value hardly declines if you don't put too many miles on it. Now that they're discontinued, I feel prices will hold strong.

If you end up not liking it after a year or two, you won't be losing out to much.

Of course you will not get close to the comfort and amenities of an Audi or BMW but you will have a ton of fun driving it.

Evos are rare to see on the road, if you want that rarity factor.

If you get the touring recaro's, they are unbelievably comfortable.

Note: I'm a student and my commute is barely anything, so my drives are short and fun. If I had to highway commute, I'd choose the f30 335

    This.

Lately I've really been wanting an older 944 turbo. Something I can strip down, and beat on it a bit. They're getting pretty cheap and they make good little track cars from what I hear.

I'm all for modding the a4, but I think when it comes time for me to own a sports car, I'll buy a sports car and not try to turn the a4 into one.

    How's that compare to K04 gains on a B8 A4 over stock?

about the same but you obviously have to change out the turbo so a $3500 + mod verse the 335 getting that with just a $800 chip and having a much higher base point of 300hp/ftlbs tq
Stage 1 more than you RS3

I was trying to trip Alex into releasing some unreleased GIAC K04 data.

Thanks though. 335 does have more and easier tuning options.

I'm all for modding the a4, but I think when it comes time for me to own a sports car, I'll buy a sports car and not try to turn the a4 into one.
Any 944 or 924S (late-run 924 with the 944 motor, minus the fender flares... rare and little known, typically quite cheap) is a great beater/project/toy. If maintained they're very reliable, the 50/50 weight distribution is great, they're light and fuel efficient, and they're surprisingly practical with that huge hatch. My stepdad DD'd a 924S for at least 5 years when I was in high school and had no major issues with it.
