Question MMI 2G - Lightning adapter for iphone 6?

    Hi everyone!

I have a 2008 S6 with the 2G MMI. It has the MMI to "ipod" 30-pin connector already installed. If I connect my Apple "30pin to lightning" adapter to that, I can play music from the phone via the MMI if I reset the MMI after connecting my phone. If I don't reset the MMI, it hangs on "connecting to device" or gives me an error that it can't connect to the device.

If I bite the bullet and pay for the OEM MMI to lightning cable, will it "just work" with a new iphone?

MMI software is the most recent release.

Instead of going that route, buy the visseo tune2air (WMA1000) adapter and stream the music via Bluetooth. That's what I did!

I considered that, but there are two downsides:

    1. My phone will automatically send all audio through the adapter once the car is turned on, so I will not hear any text or email sounds, for example, unless I am playing the streaming bluetooth music at that time.

    2. I lose all control of the device via the MMI menu. I think it's way cool to be able to control everything natively on the car and display the info on the screen.

Edit: Just looked it up. You can still control/display using the native MMI? Via bluetooth? I don't have to go into the secret menu and change the MMI to "aux" instead of apple?

That is incorrect on both parts. I have full control of the phone via the MMI and when the phone is not silenced, all alerts come through the stereo.

Yeah I just looked it up. Very cool that it works with the MMI. I was thinking of an older thread that required going into the secret MMI menu and switching the MMI to "aux", which removed all controls. But the alerts coming through the stereo is what I do NOT want. I want the phone alerts to play on the phone's speaker. I won't always be listening to the bluetooth audio. For example if I'm listening to XM or a CD, the phone will still be "connected" to the A2DP adapter, and will therefore send the audio for alerts to it, which will then NOT play them over the stereo unless I am using that input. Correct?

Edit: Would this one be even better? http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00R2HZ1XU/

That is a good question that I cant answer without testing. I really only listen to my music on my phone as regular radio sucks, I discontinued my Sirius/XM subscription and no need for CDs.

The one you linked will work as well as it a one piece unit that replaces the 30pin connector. I chose to keep mine intact as I can still use for my iPod and my iPad as well.
