    Fuel cap tether

Hi all. My son lost the fuel cap on my 99.5 Avant. After a bit of research, it seemed the proper cap for my car is supposed to be the one with the tether. I thought, "great! He can't lose it again!" However my research must be wrong as I can't find the spot that the tether is supposed to snap in at. If needed, my plan is to drill a hole myself. However I'd like to do that in the factory spot. Does anyone have or can snap a pic showing the location? Thanks!

Mine has no Tether, it has a slot in the side which allows it to sit on the fuel door so you don't loose it

Maintaining a 12 year old Audi is about as expensive as Charlie Sheen's coke habbit.

My '98 Avant also has the cap with mounting slots. No tether.

According to ECS, tethered caps were:
Up to VIN 8D-W-070001, split is in the 1998 model year
    and
From VIN 8D-W-070001 up to VIN 8D-X-300000, splits are in the 1998/1999 model years.

I'm not 100% sold on this info, however, as I think that means that mine also should have a tether.

It is a bit confusing. Mine's a 8D-X-300000-> VIN. Part number is 4B0201550H. ECS has that listed as "From VIN 8D-X-300001, split is in the 1999 model year"

My only guess is that what's in the books isn't exactly what is on the cars. It could be that the plan was a changeover for that VIN but they had stock to use up first. Who knows? In any event, I'm going to make the tether work. The cap itself fits the neck just fine. So if anyone has a picture...
