ECS vs. AWE Intake on the 3.0L S5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone. I'm researching these 2 intakes and wanted some feedback from experts. Did a quick search and didn't see any posts on a comparison, so here we go.

I had a 2.0L with the APR Carbonio that utilized the bottom half of the factory airbox.

I saw the AWE unit and now that I have the S5, was going to get that, until I saw the ECS unit.

My concern is, which one will provide more cold fresh air? The ECS unit looks like it does not use any stock parts? Will that not introduce more hot air into the intake?

no prob.. from what i remember the Open Filter Design like the Roc Euro and CTS provide the best Performance but some people find them loud it enhances the Supercharger Whine from the Stock Sound... the ECS and APR provide the best OEM Type Look sounding closer to stock

I run the ECS and did the AWE before it, and personally I find the ECS to be better all around. When you're in town, you're welcome to check it out as well.

sorry if that's the impression i gave.. i mean't closer to stock than the Roc Euro or CTS as some people don't like that loud sound.. closer to an OEM sound not sounding stock

It's still pretty loud. The CF back pipe acts as a megaphone so it amplifies the supercharger sound a decent amount. Not to mention it has an open element filter attached to the end of it. The only thing that tones it down slightly is there is a CF lid that connects to the front cowling to engulf the filter with fresh cool air from the front of the vehicle.

It can easily be just as loud as a Roc Euro or CTS intake if you remove the lid. But doing so negates the "cool air" functionality of the intake.

my comments were more of a compliment than a dig .. personally if i was going with an intake it would be a more conservative sounding intake vs slight performance increase and too much attention.. but that's me personally

No offense taken! I was just letting others know the versatility. But the biggest factor when you install an intake is your right foot. You can drive with a wide open intake and keep the sound of the blower relatively tame. Once you crack the throttle plate though the blower wakes up and begins to sing!
