Hi everybody, can someone explain me why Audi US don't import the RS6 here?

    I can see some RS5, RS7 but no RS6.

My understanding is the certification process is so expensive that Audi decided to only do the RS7

The crash tests, the paperwork, the bureaucracy

If you really wanted to you could probably buy one in Europe, dismantle it, ship piece by piece and assemble it here. Register as a kit car. If you get caught the gov't will crush it like they did with a whole bunch of GTRs. So, don't get caught.

Like Ensoniq said, it's very pricey to bring over any cars from abroad to US so if any model can't guarantee the sell, car company wouldn't bring it over unless they can offset it with other models or it's very important for brand's image.

And you know how US market perceives about a wagon in general...

I think the only crucifixion happened over the badging; plenty of us - myself included - like/love his highly-modified S6 (sans the RS6 badges).

Audi is poised to be the top luxury performance brand, gone are the days when they were considered second tier to bmw and mb. I can't imagine Audi NA is hurting for cash when they are having record sales numbers. Talk to any big audi enthusiasts (especially long time fans), they generally love avants. Sure they may not be the biggest seller but don't alienate your biggest fans. I'd argue, enthusiasts played a large part in helping Audi achieve it's current success. I think they can afford to keep their loyal fans happy.

I was at a ACNA event at Sonoma talking with some folks. AoA was in attendance and a number of people (mainly R8 owners) pleaded to bring the RS6 stateside. Saying, I'll put a deposit right now if you bring it they said. It may not be how you make money, but I think it will drive a3 and q5 sales down the road. Crash testing a rs6 won't set them back that much. This is the same firm whose parent company lost money on every veyron sold to be king of the hill.

Enough ranting, at least the S6 is a proper sports sedan now and we got the RS7. On a side note, I know the 7 platform is already a wider version of the 6, but RS cars need to be widebody. ;)

Just because they can afford to doesn't meant makes financial sense to do so. The RS6 and RS7 buyers probably have a lot of overlap. Going through the process with one model I'd bet gets most if those buyers.

I'd rather have both here as well but doubt there is enough demand for both.

That's what I'm afraid of, the decision is made from a spreadsheet standpoint. But I think bringing a car like the RS6 to the U.S. has immense value that may not appear appear on their spreadsheet with the way they are measuring.

It's like the concept of a halo car, manufacturers rarely profit from direct sales of their halo car. But the halo car elevates peoples perception of the brand, gives the image all their models are sporty and indirectly drives sales.

I once worked with a guy who got promoted to being a manager. He bought himself a 1.9L BMW Z3, once in discussing going somewhere a colleague said, don't lose me, I can't keep up with your fancy beamer. I chuckled, as I know that Z3 was slow as fuck, but BMW has a performance brand image and people assume all BMWs are fast. Now I know Audi already has the R8 and RS7 to promote it's image, but the point I want to make is: it's about the enthusiasts. Audi enthusiasts are clamoring for avants, from a marketing standpoint that's gold. Your restaurant may have a sign that says world's best meatball sub, but a lot of people will be skeptical (WORLDS best? really?). But when someone they know and respect says no really it's the best meatball sub and my Audi wagon will smoke your vette people will listen.

Long story short, Audi give your fans what they want and they'll advocate the fuck out of your brand for free.

One of you made a good point though. Why not just sell a RS6 sedan then if they dont think the Avant will sell? Theres not that much different from a platform perspective. Its not like the parts wont fit a sedan because we have seen that they do.

I love wagons, have had a bunch including four Audis. If you could get a R/S6 Avant here I wouldn't have bought the S7. It drives me crazy that they don't bring them here anymore.

With that said, it is obvious why you can't get them - people don't buy them. You can argue (I would) that it's because Americans are dumb, but it doesn't change the fact. Bringing in a raft of wagons isn't going to change that.

On the premium end, M-B has basically 100% market share, and even then it barely makes sense for them to bring them. If Audi (or BMW, or Volvo, or whoever) is going to take (say) 20% of that, what's the point? They have learned, empirically, that the only wagons they can make money on are the lifted pseudo-SUV types.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as irritated as anyone about this. My point is, don't blame Audi, blame Americans.

PS - on a slightly related note, I read in this morning's WSJ that Lindsey Vonn drives an RS6 Avant when she's in Europe. Which makes perfect sense.

It's true. The S6 sells the fewest numbers of any S car in the US. There are fewer C7 S6s than RS5s.

Audi USA does a masterful job of getting prospective buyers into higher price points. This is probably a big reason why there is no RS6. I imagine it has almost nothing to do with demand.

Does availability have anything to do with that? I've yet to actually see an S6 on a lot here in Atlanta. Doesn't seem like they're making very many.

Closest We Will Get To RS6 sedan with the C7!

    Hey Guys,

Debated to post since it has been awhile, but I guess I needed to crucified by all the purist

Since I live close to AoA Headquarters, I have had many of the upper brass congratulate me on creating something that Audi has not from factory, a RS6 sedan for the C7 model.

They were just amazed at the insanity and detail right to the OEM RS6 door handles. Its kinda cool when corporate acknowledges a white unicorn, then its basically all OEM RS6 parts

This may be the only car of its kind in existence.

Project is basically finished and car will be doing its 2016 US tour and allowing all the Sponsors proper recognition! It may even go overseas but still working on that with AoA.

Will also be debuting a gorgeous set of new 21" wheels from a premier boutique manufacture in the Spring. The car will be used to market and roll out to the public.

    Happy Holiday and Be Safe

[QUOTE=Fast4DR S6;11235934]I have had many of the upper brass congratulate me on creating something that Audi has not from factory, a RS6 sedan for the C7 model.

They were just amazed at the insanity and detail right to the OEM RS6 door handles. Its kinda cool when corporate acknowledges a white unicorn, then its basically all OEM RS6 parts

This may be the only car of its kind in existence.

I MUST HAVE THIS CAR!!!! HOLY SH1T!!!! NICE JOB!!!
