Got in it to start it and turned the key and check engine, ESP and Traction control came on, and wouldn't even attempt to turn over the engine just flashes "SERVICE!". So I run the codes and says it's a CTS/thermostat. Code P1296. Anyone know how I should fix the issue? I can pop the clutch and start it and it runs/drives perfectly fine.. I am running a 160 thermostat, someone told me to and this may/may not be my issue I am not sure.. Anyone have any clue what might be wrong?

Bump.. I have pulled the CTS and I'm missing my clip so I ordered the new sensor with clip and o-ring.

That code won't prevent the car from starting. Possible problems could be a weak battery, clutch/transmission interlock switch, starter or ignition switch to name a few. Start with the battery. What is its resting voltage?

I assume you mean the engine will rotate but just will not fire up as opposed to turning the key and nothing happening. Is my assumption correct?

A faulty rear CTS can cause hard starting issues. The ECM may think the engine is up to temperature and consequently won't provide enough fuel for the engine to start. Kinda like an old carbureted engine with a non functioning choke.

And why are you running a 160° thermostat? And where did you get it? I was not aware that you could purchase a 160° mapped thermostat.

Not entirely sure on the thermostat.. But not sure if what you're saying is what I'm describing..
So when I get inside turn the key it clicks, engine does nothing, check engine, ESP and Traction control light come up and center reads out SERVICE. I jumped the battery and tried to start it and nothing changed. I can pop the clutch to get it to start..

OK. Different story. When you turn the key do you get one click or continuous clicking?

If you are getting continuous clicking that would be an indication of low voltage to the starter. If jumping with another power source doesn't make a difference that would be an indication of a bad connection somewhere. Here's some info on how to check at the starter to make sure you are getting the correct voltage. Clicky click®

Misinformed on the thermostat. I looked up at the starter, gave it a few taps did nothing.. Here's what it looks like, planned on pulling it out and having autozone test it, I am missing a nut..

Also for whatever reason forgot to mention my battery light also queues up with these when I turn my key.
I am attempting to take off this starter but going off the provided image I cannot determine where the second figure is initially..

Did you read old guys link before taking out the starter? You may simply have a weak battery or a loose connection. There are a few tests you can do to find the problem if you have a multimeter.
