What is this noise? Sound clip of car whistling on acceleration. Please listen

Sorry I could not add it as a straight audio clip.

It seems to only do it when I am in drive, if I am in park and accelerate I do no hear anything.
At first I thought the belt but if it was the belt shouldn't it also whine when im parked and revving the engine?

Is this sound only when you accelerate, does it make a difference if you turn heavy?

Yes only when I'm accelerating. If you listen closely to the sound when I accelerate it whistles, I let go it stops, in particular between seconds 7-9 then I let off from second 9-14 and accelerate again.

I have not tried it in any other gear except drive.
I did not listen to see if there was a difference when turning, I can check both of these things in an hour or 2.

Also as far as I can tell it goes away over 40mph or that may just be in my head and because wind noise is canceling out the sound.

If you accelerate in neutral versus in drive. That way I'd assume it narrows it down to actual driveline/drivetrain, versus motor, belts, etc.

almost sounds like a crack in the airbox or a loose hose somewhere

or possibly some sort of blockage or debris in the intake vent?

I tested in drive and turning and no change its still making that noise on acceleration

    No CELs
    No overheating

Im guessing its some sort of intake hose since its only on acceleration but when revving in park there is no sound, im so confused especially since I can be doing 30mph and there is no sound if im not accelerating?

Do you think it can be trans? The sound seems to be from the engine bay, but sound does travel so i cant be sure.

Well when I start wripping it apart maybe I'll find out the issue.

I'm supposed to be doing the timing belt, serpentine, valve covers and SAI delete soon so maybe I'll find something, hopefully.

I FINISHED EVERYTHING AND ITS STILL DOING IT!!!!!!!

Why do you hate me Audi, why?

Its like a freaking truck turbo whining and I don't get it, what can it be, here is another sound clip.
This time I noticed it whined like it normally does but when the car shifted on its own it stopped then started again when it went to the next gear(5-7 second mark).

Is there a vacuum hose going to the trans or anything of that nature?

Could it be the fuel injectors, I read it may be that????

I read maybe air around the throttle body or even a crack/leak somewhere in the exhaust....

None of these scenarios take into account that it cannot be replicated in neutral.

Touché, Monsieur but I just had a possible revelation, probably not a good one.

Here is a soundclip of the car upon startup, the noise that I hear in drive can be heard here, obviously it is not as loud. But between seconds 3 and 4 you can hear it.
This is leading me to believe that the alternator is going bad????

Here is another recorded sound clip, I guess the car is making the sound in park so maybe it is not a driveline issue(hopefully).
But now I also got a new whining sound like a belt would make.

You can hear the whine in the beginning and the whistle between seconds 4-5 and 11-12 when I rev the engine.

I'm hoping to get the car into a shop for the whistle diagnoses but until then I figured Id try asking one more time.

    Aresenal,

My car was making a very similar sound for about a month I thought vacuum hose or something as it sounded much like a turbo, but my car doesn't have that either. Was curious what it was until the serpentine belt tensioner exploded... then the sound went away. I have an '02 3.0l avant. Just adding another possibility for you. I replaced the tensioner and it is fine now.

    Josh,

Thanks for the reply, I actually replaced the serpentine belt tensioner when I did the TB. The noise was there before and still there after.
I appreciate your input though :)
