35K Service on 2013 S7 - How much? Mixing self service and dealership? Etc

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I called my dealership and they are telling me around $1700 all said and done to complete the 35K service. I looked it up and obviously the big stuff is as follows:
    DSG Transmission Flush
    Spark plugs
    Cabin and Air Filter
    Oil Change

I would consider myself a pretty well experienced DIY enthusiast. I just completed almost all of my own service work on all my vehicles (MK1 TT, D2 Audi A8L, Mercedes ML320, and others in the past), so I wouldn't consider myself shy when it comes to maintenance and repair work, especially if I have some instructions to complete.
Wondering how much of this I can do or should do vs should I have the dealer do. I priced out most of the parts for the above service and I would be looking at maybe $700.

I have never done a DSG transmission flush, not sure if anyone else has done that here. Wondering how difficult. Same with the spark plugs, never pulled them from the 4.0T engine, done it on my 4.2 V8, 3.2 V6 and my 1.8T. Not sure how it compares. Same with resetting the service notifications after the fact.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am obviously still covered under factory warranty, and also have an extended warranty until 100K and want to keep those in place. I know they can't deny warranty claims by doing my own work, or using a non-dealer shop, just wondering other peoples experience.

    Thanks all,
    Tom

Take it to a local performance shop instead. Or any Audi/VW shop, they can do this service interval for at least $700-800 less than the dealer. The 35K interval is a big service, so don't wait to long to get it done.

Wow, that is crazy. I'm happy I got AudiCare when I did. With 15k,25k,35k, and 45k covered it was still a lot cheaper than what you were quoted. You should definitely try local Audi/VW shops, and definitely other dealers as those sound overpriced.

Sounds like your getting bent over....my local Audi dealer charges $922. I had to book an appt for my cabrio and figured I'd ask for a price so you have something to gauge by

That's absurd. Find a good indy shop - no reason to go to the dealer for that.

And this is why Audicare is completely worth it.

Agree on AudiCare. Even assuming the price is closer to $1k than it is $1700, you've pretty much covered 4 services for the price of 1. I'm annoyed by the changes they've made to Audi Care + though.

agree..the audicare plus and 2 services is not worth it. I may seek an indy close by for my car.

Another hat in the ring to find an independent. We are undercutting the dealers by about 50% on all service pricing.
About to tackle this service myself on my S6 in the shop next week.
If there is a lot of interest I could record the major procedures. It does require lots of tools/special tools.

I think I'm going to do Audi care this time around. I would love to see a DIY manual for the Transmission Flush and Spark Plugs! If I was around you I'd just come in and do the write up and pics while you did the work, alas I'm in WI :)
