I finally finished my stereo system.
I set out to install a sub and amp to add a little thump to the factory B&O system which sounds great out of the box, but lacks the tight bass I'm used to.
After installing my initial system I had a horrible noise that was generating through the sub from the Automatic Noise Cancelation (ANC). It took me a while, but I was able to disable the ANC by pulling the four pins on the amp that control the ANC.
After getting the ANC out of the way I was happy with the results of the bass, but the trunk is too well sealed to let the bass through. I had the stock B&O sub that came mounted under the parcel shelf (a system that was changed to the sub mounted with the spare tire in the 2014 model). I thought that keeping the 8" B&O sub would a nice little mid bass, but that wasn't the case. All it was doing was keeping the real bass out of the cabin and it would distort at high volume. So I removed the B&O sub and now there's nothing in the way of letting the sound come through. Sounds much better without it than with it. Then I Dynamatted the parcel shelf to avoid creeks and rattles.
I had a Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 3 12" sub and amp, but the 12" bass was a bit sloppy and I wanted a bit tighter bass. I considered an open air (infinite baffle) 10" sub to mount onto the parcel shelf, but I was warned against it not producing great bass. I also wanted something that I could easily move around in case I need to put something large in the trunk. So I ordered a JL Audio Pro Wedge CS110-W6V3 10" Sub in it's sealed factory box. It's a very compact unit it it sounds great. The 10" W6 sub can handle up to 600W. I mated it to an Arc Audio XDi 1100.1 Amp and it sounds fantastic, it delivers 500W for the ohm configuration of the JL sub. Hard hitting bass when you want it and nice complement when you don't. To control the amount of bass I ran a two pairs of RCA cables from the amp to the front next to the steering wheel so I can have a PAC LC-1 level controller that controls the gain from 0-100%. To keep it clean I took apart the LC-1 and my hard wired Escort SmartCord and I enclosed them both in the same project box. I'm very happy with the results, I had a lot of trial and error, so I thought I would write this post in case anyone might find it useful.
