It snowed overnight in Wisconsin last week, and I was up at 7am like a kid going to Disneyland.
This is the second time I tried rotating the car from a standstill. I decided it would be smart to take video with only one hand on the wheel.
On slick roads it's immediately apparent the S4 is not a light or favorably balanced car. It makes me feel like snow tires are even more important on B5S4s than "normal" cars. Also, IMO, this car really could use a rear mechanical LSD.
However, I later found that once you've got some decent forward velocity, the moments are lower and little changes in grip and loading let you accurately position the car with quite a bit of confidence. It really was a hoot. Going about 35 mph I was carrying a 40-degree drift through the long uphill half of a big s-curve on an empty city street! It was very gratifying after a period of initial disappointment.
So a mixed bag so far. I know some snow tires will do a lot to change things.
