Same here...just hit 10k and tread is almost flush with wear bars. So, can we get dealer to prorate warranty and give credit for a new set (another brand of course)?

I got 21K out of my stock Dunlop Maxx oem tires and was happy about it. Many previous posts about the poor tread ware on the Contis. Lots of alternative UHP summer tires that are better with longer tread life than the oem Contis. If you really want a tire with better tread wear, get a/s tires. Should work well in Jersey

I swapped my Conti's for PSS at ~12K miles (include 1 track day). I could've stretch it out to ~14-15K max, but got a nail in the side wall, which can't fix, so decided to swap all fours. PSS is much better on streets and track.

Just for the record, which Continental tire are we talking about here? Putting together a 19" set up for my car now and want to make sure I avoid these...

Also, for the record, I never could get much more than 15k out of PSSes on my B7.

And finally, for the record, I was very happy with Hankook V12s. A little less ultimate grip than the PSS (ie. commenced to squealing a bit earlier), but cheaper, great feel and MUCH longer wearing.

My stock Conti's were deemed "defective" by my dealer at 7200 miles as I was experiencing excessive vibrations. Tried rotating, re-balancing, different (than recommended) pressures but nothing helped. Put on four brand new AS/3's and it's been as smooth as glass since.

race car or maybe gravel roads?

My Conti 3's are on 20k'ish with 3mm on front, 5mm on back (recent service). I drive with an aggressive enthusiasm.

off topic, I'd be lucky to get 3000km out of my Yoko road legal semi slicks on a previous car..now i did drive that like a race car (280bhp, front wheel drive, 800kg car).

the stock tires on Audis are always crap. We've had 5 Audis over the past 10 years and every one of them with summer tires never makes it far. My Wife got 17k out of her Pirelli's and I'm still the record holder at 18,500 on my 19" Conti's. Those tires WERE NOT safe to drive on at that point.

I have a paranoid suspicion that Audi does this on purpose. If you think about it, Audi leases most of their cars. If they put crap tires on them, that means the driver must, at some point over a 36k mile lease, put new tires on the car. Audi then gets a car returned to them with good tires, ready for the CPO lot.

How do you like the RE-11 on the S4. Had them on my Golf R and loved them. I now have a set for my S4 mounted on my peelers waiting for summer but I basically drove from the shop to home and put my winters on.

This thread resonates with me - all this time I thought I was the problem w/ my moderately spirited driving but in reality the stock continentals just suck.

just curious, what are some viable alternatives besides the PSS'?

Yep I made it to 15k on my stock Conti's before I almost burned the car down from anger. Got PSS and never looked back. Love these things - 10k on them already and still look fairly new. 30k warranty on them is a nice bonus too.

OEM tire pressure per door sill is like 38lbs. Yeah that will ruin a set of tires in no time. I dropped mine to ~35

I actually think it's 41. Since it's usually just me in the car, I keep it at 37lbs on all 4 corners. Lots of opinions on this, I may try to back off the rears a bit more but I like the way the car handles and feels at that pressure for daily driving.

So it seems the stock Conti's (I have the 19" ContiSportContact 3) have no tread warranty. Here's the language I pulled from the tire warranty card last night.

    3. What is not covered by this limited warranty
-Mileage: Tread wearout up to a predetermined mileage is not covered under this policy.

I know everyone raves about the PSS, but I'm leaning towards the S-04 as my next replacement. They're right behind the PSS on Tirerack's ratings, but cost about 1/3 less for size I'm looking at. And right now, I'm thinking almost anything would be better than the stock Conti's I've been driving on for the past 10k.

Lol, couldn't be further from truth. I've run 41 psi cold in two sets of summer tires and one set of winter tires over the past 4.5 years on my S4 and they have all worm perfectly evenly. My previous car (Volvo S60R) called for 40psi all around and I never had tire wear issues on that car either.

You will NOT ruin tires by running manufacturer recommended tire pressures.

So far very good. I have about 10k miles on them now and I'm just starting to notice a little wear. Still plenty of tread left.
