Put mine on this past weekend. Definitely a difference in stopping distances. Super sports really don't do well at all in the cold.

I leave for work around 6am every morning and the roads are super cold at that time up here North of Boston so its definitely made a nice difference. Can't wait for snow .
I'm living for the day I can park something Italian inside of my house.

We've installed a bunch of winter packages over the past 2 weeks. We usually suggest running them from Thanksgiving until Easter and most seem to abide by that. And then we have a few customers that won't even think about their winter tires until snow is already on the ground.

I suppose it depends on what you run for a 'summer' tire as well. If you're running a true summer tire, as I am, you better swap those bad boys out when the weather starts getting chilly and before frosty jizz hits the ground. If you're running decent all seasons it wouldn't be as much of a concern. I learned my lesson the hard way regarding shitty all season tires (nexen junk that came on the car) and snow on the ground.

Don't own a B7 but...since OP is from NJ (still unseasonably warm at the moment)... I usually wait until the avg temps are <40F before doing so. I have Winter Sport 3D's for the B5 and deciding on Blizzak WS80's on the B8.5

Wife's car is already wearing them and I'm in no huge hurry to swap them on the B7 because I'm not really driving it at the moment.

Yes since 2008. Cops pull over random people on/around the 15th to make sure you have the snow pictogram on your tires, if not : 277$ Ticket.

They put that law because too many people were cheaping out and running 4 seasons all year round and when we had a snowstorm thew would crash bringing other people with them. Before that law 90% of the drivers had them on, but the 10% without them would cause 40% of the accidents lol

From the same article but its dated 2009 :

So far, other provinces have rejected calls for mandatory winter tires. Ontario claims their winters aren’t harsh enough in the southern part of the province to warrant the expense to motorists, while one Calgary alderman is proposing a snow tire law for residents of his city.

Same here in the "mid-south"........We only get snow a few times a year, and the Conti DWS did a great job for me when the weather was crappy. I run them all year with no problems in this climate.

From the same article but its dated 2009 :
That's the best damn law ever. Ive always been so pissed Ontario hasn't adopted it. They state we dont get harsh enough winters which is very false, and besides that, with the amount of idiots we have that can't even drive on the first sight if flurries, we'd save countless lives and injuries. What annoys me the most is that like you said, its these ppl who cause the accidents and put me in jeopardy.

I can literally walk down my street in winter and find 6/10 homes with summers or dingy No seasons still on their cars. I guess ppl like driving on hockey pucks...

That is my dilemma too. I was planning on doing it this weekend but I'm not sure its going to happen. Supposed to be a high of 54 here this weekend. I've got brand new Michelin X-Ice XI3 tires and I really don't want to chew them up.

My rule of thumb that I try to go by is that if I have a solid week of weather under 50 then I'll put them on, still hasn't happened so I'm going to hold off a bit longer. It sucks though because the weather has been soo weird that I can't really gauge when I'll be putting them on. Safe bet is probably mid to late December this year. I don't see much accumulation happening with the temp in the 40s/50s haha

If it's frequently less than 7c (45f) , theres no reason to wait, your tires are already under performing and maybe a little unpredictable at that temp point.

I drive on all seasons. One of the main reasons I bought B7 quattro. Not because I don't want to, but I don't have space to store two sets of winter wheels and tires for two cars in my tiny apartment (which is already full of tools and other stuff). So, until I move to a bigger house, its going to be all seasons. The city roads are cleared in timely manner so commute is a little slow on those days but not a problem at all.

The very recent law here (which is awesome):
On the highway through the mountains (Westbound I70 in CO), you got to have 4WD/AWD vehicle with all seasons or good treads (I forgot what exact amount) on all seasons rated for mud and snow for non 4WD/AWD and some traction aids like chains or socks. If they check and find your tires don't comply, you get a ticket and if you cause an accident because of the inadequate tires, you pay a lot (a lot more).

I don't have any problems here in CO even with my RWD on those roads on all seasons, just have to know your car, road condition and take it slow. Drove through blizzards along the mountain roads in my RWD with all seasons on without getting stuck or going sideways. Its always the nutbags in their the big SUVs that zoom past you thinking they are invincible who gets everyone in trouble. I have seen way too many of them who make a nightmare of a drive to ski towns for everyone.

Now with quattro, I feel much more secured than in the RWD for traction specially on deep snow. Also non sports suspension on my B7 helps a ton for clearance than my lowered RWD. :)
Tires do play an important role, but one has to drive according to conditions. Some people don't and everyone else pays the price because they cause a fracas.

On topic: If I had dedicated summer/winter setups I would switch them in November and in April.

If you can find a way to store snow tires, i'd highly recommend snow tires. If summers performed a 1 (out of 100) in snow, all seasons would perform at a 30...significantly better than summers. But snow tires would perform at a 80. They are that much more effective in snow than all seasons.

Plus snow tires + quattro = tank
If only I had storage solution, I would in a heartbeat. Storing 8 wheels (2 cars) for half a year inside a one bed room apartment would just be painful. Trust me when I say my closet is full of tools. Jack stands, jacks, ramps, usual tools and special tools for BMW and audi. Plus my ski's, snowboard, fishing gear, camping gear, takes almost all of the storage closet stacked on top of each other.
And I am a musician by hobby, so a couple of guitars and amps. Along with full fletched home theater system, living room is full. Only place would be kitchen, and I am not going to store tires in kitchen.

I actually considered taking them off the Toyota with all the warm weather we were having lately.
