Need Advice on Certified Audi Purchased in April

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a Certified Pre-owned Audi in April... 2013 S5 Prestige Moonlight Blue metallic - 1 owner 23,000 miles...I noticed this summer over time seeing more and more swirl marks and I only hand washed the car since I got the vehicle..I mentioned the issue to my dealer and they don't want to work with me to fix the issue, I feel that the "detailing" prep they did before I saw the vehicle temporarily hid the swirls and was not noticeable...This week I got a 2nd opinion from a well known detailer and they claim:

"In my opinion it has buffer trails, wool haze and would need a 2 step correction to fix.
I don't have anything that would fill and hide, that is something that is temporary and will wash out with time.
A single polishing step may improve it but I am certain you would be left with some of the deeper issues in the paint.
Here is a great article explaining.

Any comments on what I should do further? Anyone have contacts?..

I've done paint correction on most every car I've owned so speaking from experience here. Regardless if you're hand-washing the car vs a corner car wash place you're going to have swirl marks. I've done a full paint correction and a day later gently wiped something off the trunk with a clean high quality micro-fiber and created new swirl marks. A lot of it depends on the quality of the clear coat but it's truly inevitable.

There's no way the swirl marks were hidden and appeared over time just with you hand washing the car. Invest in a Flex and some Adam's swirl mark remover and touch it up every few months or so.

Just get it detailed. The dealer isn't going to do anything about this.

Improper hand washing and drying leads to swirls, so as much as I know I'm going to sound like an asshole for saying it, the swirls very well could have been caused by you. I, myself, have been guilty of improperly hand washing vehicles in the past. When I was younger I always thought "top to bottom" was the only thing I needed to care about. I never bothered to worry about toxins in my cleaning supplies, grates in my buckets, etc.

I'd suggest either paying a detailer to do a number on your car a couple times a year, or invest in some high quality products and training/practice to do it yourself. I personally find more joy in doing it myself, because I like to see my own hard work pay off.

Washing your car is a art. Unfortunately, as hazemyth said, this could have been caused by improper hand washing. Can you give us a detailed breakdown of your car washing method? Some of us more experienced detailers can point you to any potential issues with your process.

Audi Clear Coat is VERY soft. One of the more swirl-prone finishes I have ever worked on. CPO warranty won't cover the swirls and I think you are out of luck trying to pursue any remedy from the dealership.
