whats involved with swapping to Sport Suspension

I need new struts and I'm finding Sport struts even cheaper than the base ones, but it seems they'd handle better so if it's a simple swap then why not?

You just bolt them on and go I believe. You might want the sport springs too.

The sport springs is what give you the drop in ride height. And I guess to do it 100% the right way you would have to re torque all the control arm bushings at the new ride height

I believe you should start a single thread for all your questions, nothing wrong with being inquisitive but it's pushing other threads down which could use assistance too.

Sport struts and springs are decent, coilovers are a good idea if you want lows bit sports are comfortable for a DD.

My 01 was not sport suspension. It may have been the 01.5's tho?

These above plus you need new bump stops too(or cut the existing ones).

Ideally speaking you need the 29mm sports sway bar also but it is not necessary..

my 01 has sport suspension you can also find out from your door tag and owners manual for your cars equipment if not alraedy modified. sport suspension is typically red. my car came with the setup like that. you do need to retorque everything though to do it all correctly, otherwise you will wear out your control arms pretty fast. also the one thing i havent seen mentioned. is your car a 1.8t or a 2.8 the springs are for the engine size you have. if you fit 2.8 springs on your 1.8t you'll have positive rake and your car will be too high in the front. so match your springs to your engine size, but i think only 1.8ts had red shocks anyways, ive never seen a 2.8 with them, but i could be wrong on that.

Sorry for the threads guys, I bought a car knowing that it needed some work, and I"m crunching to get this thing going before the snow really flies.

I dont think it's sport suspension stock. The rears were swapped to KYB garbage and I'm not sure what color the fronts are, I'll go look. Dont believe they are red though.

I'm NOT looking to go lower; we average 171" of snow here every year which means the ground clearance is much appreciated.

If there is a ton involved to go to sport suspension, I wont do it. I found some Bilstein OEM style shocks for a GOOD price.... half the price of the HD's. I think I will end up going that route.

I think sport suspension is around a 20mm drop compared to stock, that's almost an inch. And on our cars that's over 10% in drop.

Ya I'm not looking for any more low. I'm pretty sure I"m going with Bilstein Touring struts. Will do more research but for the price and the for the quality I think that's what I will end up doing. I don't need the a4 road-race ready, as I plan for it to be my DD. Comfort + handling is key, which I dont believe the Sports or HD's will give me.

You'll be fine. It's not "low" by any means. With proper tires, you'll have plenty of clearance.

2.8 cars can have red sport suspension, too. I sold mine to a guy who was doing the swap when I bought Bilstein Sports and H&R Springs.

Bilstein comforts are "10% stiffer than stock" IIRC, whatever that means.
