01561 Left Rear Door Can't Unlock

A strange issue popped up the other day and I've been trying to track down the cause. When I open any of my doors, the interior floor lights don't come on. Everything else works as it should. Checked for codes and got:

    01561 - Left Rear Door
    59-00 - Can't Unlock

So I started looking at the left rear door. The only abnormality that I've found so far is that I can hear the unlock mechanism in the door do something like trigger twice when I unlock the car. Despite this, the door physically locks/unlocks and the alarm arms/disarms. I've checked the wiring in the accordion harness and it looks good, pulling the door panel off is the next step.

Just wanted to see if anyone had run into something like this.

I get the same error code although my car lights up without a problem. (I usually just have this feature turned off) I do "hear" that door unlocking or clicking when I'm driving. I haven't checked the door loom or have taken the door card off.

Something to do when I have free time I guess. Keep us or at least me updated. We might have the same problem with slightly different symptoms.

I have the same issue. sometimes it won't unlock until I pull the handle twice then it opens. I also notice when this happens the rear courtesy lights don't come on.

Do any of the interior/door puddle lights come on when this happens?

I had a problem like this in my front passenger door. Lock would randomly click while driving and puddle lights would not turn on with door open when the short was present. A wire in the door wiring harness failed, found it by removing the harness from the vehicle and testing continuity at the pins. All wires checked good visibly, one wire had no continuity. I jumped the bad wire by splicing a fresh piece of wire just after the connector pins...all fixed.

I have removed the door card from my driver side front door before but have never messed with the wiring loom. Is it pretty easy to access and inspect? I mean, is it like a cable plugging in to the car and then to the door or is it a long bundle of cables coming from the car and ending at the door? Does that make sense?

On the front door, it is a bulk connector that connects at the door jamb and splits into various connectors that connect to different places inside the door. Your problem is likely between the door and the window motor which also functions as the door controller...this was the problem for me. If so you may not have to remove the whole harness like I did...just check continuity from the big connector at the door jamb to the door controller. Match colors and verify resistance.

Sorry, I meant that I had only taken off my front door card but that my problem was in the rear door. Here's the thing though: as far as I know, the door locks and unlocks normally. The lights on the door operate normally as well. It's just that I get an error message when I scan and I hear the door click every once in a while.

Does the alarm chirp every time you lock the car? In my case, the alarm would only chirp intermittently...the alarm failed to chirp when the door would fail to lock automatically. That may give you a idea if/when a short occurs. A failure on the scan only could indicate a problem with the door module itself...but I doubt it.

My alarm started failing a couple of months ago. It would be very faint then not work at all then go back to working full time. I bought something to modify and fix it by I haven't done it yet. It's a mod I saw on here where you modify the alarm module to accept these energizer AA rechargeable batteries. The "real" batteries from the module get really corroded and are hard to source.

As far as the floor lightning goes.. Found some corrosion and junked wiring that I cleaned up and all is well now.

For the door lock... Everything still works as I need it to short of the fault code and the double actuation every time it unlocks. I'm guessing I'll just have to replace the lock if it decides to die one day.

sometimes. I can close it and open it again and it might come on. might not. it's weird. I'm thinking it may be a wiring thing.
