    6 Speed Transmission Noise

So for the past few weeks I've been hearing a strange noise coming from (my best guess) behind the center console glove box area. To explain the noise, I guess it sounded a bit like when your anti-lock breaks kick in, the grinding noise but no where as loud and pronounced as that. This only happens after leaving from a stop, once you get moving 2nd gear or above I don't hear it anymore, maybe because engine and road noise I don't think I hear it anymore. So I brought it in today to be looked at since its still covered under CPO. I guess they didn't know what the noise we either, so they took an audio recording and sent it to Audi. Guess I will hear back tomorrow on what they think. Anyone have any ideas, kinda hard to say anything since you can't actually hear the sound it was making.

On a side note...if it is a transmission issue and it does need to be replaced, would they also replace the clutch? Or would that be something out of pocket? Never had any issues with the clutch, just didn't know if when replacing the trans its something they would do anyway to rule out any issues in the future if the transmission had something wrong with it possibly causing issues to the clutch. Guess I will see tomorrow.

How many miles on the car? It is unlikely they will replace your clutch as this doesn't seem to be related to power transfer or engagement. If you want to upgrade though, now would be the time to do it while the tranny is out of the car etc.

yeah the car only has 59K on it. No tune no aggressive driving...the trans didn't even seem to show any issues, never noticed anything but that clicking noise. Thought it was maybe an axle or something.

I had something similar and turned out to be my Input Shaft Bearing. Went ahead and just beefed up a ton of stuff inside the gearbox and got new clutch and flywheel and just made the whole thing rock solid. **Note** Stock tune, no aggressive driving, just very spiritedly here and there. Not any more though

I agree. If the dealer takes apart the transmission, they will most likely tell you you need to replace your clutch and flywheel. Might as well be prepared, you don't want to pay labor for that type of thing twice, and you should have some of the labor covered if there is some warranty coverage, but the clutch/fw hardware will not be covered for sure.

Yeah just heard back, they are going to be replacing the transmission under warranty. Just baffled on a car that is relatively still new already needing a transmission replaced. As for the clutch, they are going to let me know the condition once they get the transmission out. How much are clutches? I mean think I could get away with just having the disk replaced? Don't see why I would need to replace the entire clutch and flywheel, but I am not no mechanic. I just never had any issues or problems with the clutch.

Anyone know how much it cost for a replacement clutch, just the clutch not the flywheel.
