Heavy fuel smell in garage and in the cabin

Hi All,

I have my MY16 RS 6 for a month. I have done 2000 miles on it. I drove it pretty hard last night. After parking it in the garage, the garage had a very heavy smell of fuel. This morning when I jumped into the car, there was also a fuel smell in the cabin.

Anyone experience any similar issues ?

Any visible leak? Not sure if the set up is the same, but on my S5 I had that happen and it was a cracked seal under the back seat to the tank. No visible moisture, just the crack was leaking fumes.

Strangely no smell in engine bay.

I had that smell on a MY14 RS7 but only just behind the engine of the car when the fans were on, post drive. It really smelled like fuel in the fans airflow, particularly with the doors open standing right by it. It was attributed in this case to some of the new materials, and it did go away.

Interesting .... My fans were running for a long time as I was pushing the car hard.

Had similar problem few months ago, ended up being HPFP leaking. Dealership replaced under warranty.

I had the same problem at 1.5K miles on 16 RS7. They found nothing wrong. Hasn't happened again

I have had this happen a few times in my 2015 S7. It seems to happen when i am driving hard. Horrible smell of gas in the cabin. Checked under the car and the hood. No sign of any leaking. The smell goes away the next day. Not sure what the deal is.

I was told to occasionally "drive longer distances" if possible. Something about fuel occasionally building up near the filter. Not sure if that was the case, but I no longer worried about the car exploding in a ball of flames and it hasn't happened again.

Have heard of this (in other threads) happening and being a popped fuel line though. So worth checking out if it lasts longer than half a day and/or you find fuel somewhere.

Have also heard of faulty injector seal causing fuel leak.

If the smell persists l would get to a dealer, as there is a potential issue waiting to happen.

I recall a thread on here a few months back about similar issues, try a google search on the forum, see what that throws up.

Thanks for all the replies gents. No issues this morning. So so strange !!!
I could only give it a bit of horns last night due to traffic. All was fine last night and yesterday. I'll keep a check on it.

Same thing happened to me last night and today after hard driving. I had to take the car out of the garage in fear of burning my house down lol.

There has to be some kind of leak somewhere, the gas smell was crazy inside and outside the car. Today the gas light came on and it went from 20mile range to 10 fast. And when I got to the entrance of the gas station the cluster said something about the auto stop start then the car cut off and then back on. Then it cut off completely as I coasted into the station. I pressed the start button and it kept trying to crank but wouldn’t. So I went inside and got Gas can and filled it up, put it in the car then drove up to a pump to put more gas in. Car runs fine now, taking it to the dealership tomorrow.
