    B8.5 CVT hesitation

Hi guys, I got a quick question. I have a B8.5 CVT FWD, one thing i noticed is that its very hard on the initial moving of the car, it doesn't feel responsive and that it is lagging when speeding up, till around 30 mph where then its so fast that i have to use two hands to speed up. I ran a vagcon scan, and nothing came up. I don't know if this is normal, but hell, I can't beat anyone from 0-30 I feel, and that it takes more like 12 secs to get to 0-60 instead of 6-7. HELP

Have you driven a CVT before? They are very different from normal automatic transmissions, I hated the one in my B6 cabrio.

I have, but mostly newer jdm's like corolla etc. This just feels off, not normal I think.

It's a horrible transmission, especially for a turbo car. Trans lag and turbo lag is no good!

CVTs are so so so bad. They wear out so fast and end up becoming notchy and uncomfortable. The CVT in the A4 is actually the best one I've driven....and it still sucked. Thank god they are going away. The CVT in my GF's corrolla is so slow to change ratios. The worst CVTs by far though are from Nissan....I've driven Rogues and Maxima rental cars and they all lug the engine at RPMS far too low causing the car to shudder and choke.

Is this a problem that recently presented itself?

The CVTs will hesitate or lurch forward over time and after wear. The only way to properly maintain the CVT (that I've been told my many techs) is to change the fluid and filter every 40-50K miles. It's about a $500 job depending on your shop (e.g dealer, private shop, etc). CHanging the fluid only buys you time and will never fix the problem. A new CVT or rebuild is about $5000

Something sounds wrong. My B8 was a CVT, and while it didn't jump off the line, as soon as I got up to 10mph I was scooting along. In fact I always found myself halfway down the block, 10 car lengths ahead of any other car, when I was just driving casually.

This is the best CVT I've driven and I don't mind it honestly. A corolla rental I had SUCKED (Very loud) and the Nissan was any better (More Quiet). My car accelerates pretty quickly (responsive) and I don't really notice a lag (Very peppy). However sometimes it lags depending on how I press the accelerator but something may be wrong with yours. Doesn't hurt to have your dealer check it out and make sure your car is operating within spec.
