2-pieces Front rotor Choices for our S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I am searching for a good 2 pieces rotor for my 2013 S4.
I have the Q5 brembo calipers upgrade, and just cracked my Zimmermann Cross-drilled rotors.
I would like a plain rotor, or slotted, that could bring a little more cooling, by directionnal veins.

    But no more drilled rotor...

    So, here what i found:
    - JHM: it seems that they are dedicated to weight loss reduction and are verry thin. I have seen reports of rotors cracks du to this.
    - Girodisc : seems a good possibility
    - APIKOL: it's my favorite for the moment, since i would prefer a plain surface rotor vs slotted.

Are there other possibilities to consider ?

What are your feedback about these, guys ? Especially APIKOL which seems to be verry few represented?
I would prefer to not go in the "get a BBK" discussion, I track my car "gently" 2-3 times a year and don't want to go further than this upgrade. (Q5 calipers + 2 pieces rotor)

    Thanks in advance,

    Best regards,

    Mat

We've installed a fair amount of JHM rotors - they're much lighter, and we haven't seen a set that has cracked or anything.

I'm running ECS Tuning's 2 piece rotors. I think they are actually lighter than JHM's (correct me if I'm wrong) and less expensive. - https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_S4...ors/ES2602983/
They also sell floating wave rotors that should weigh even less - https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_S4...ors/ES2681113/ - these should allow for more even application of force from the calipers...

They have matching for rears too obviously...

    Hello !

I don't want to say Zimmerman are not good. I fact i am convinced that it is a verry good brand.
I just made the mistake to get some X-drilled rotors and go to track with them... X-drilled are too weak and prone to crack for track use.
If you get them for the street, it will be great.

Btw, i ordered Girodisc Front rotors and put them on the car in february

We have not had much if any negative feed back in regards to our ECS 2-piece rotors and them being drilled.

Doubt that's related to the rotors and more so the pad choice.

At this moment in time we are liking the Girodisc/Apikol route. StopTech has not come out with anything as part of their ARK program that we have been trying to help kick start. The price is up there for the Girodisc/Apikol but the quality is unsurpassed at this moment for the options available.

The slots in the Girodisc rotors are nice, rotors to be seem well built, they work fiine, but they do seem heavy, though.

Do you know if Girodisc's B8 RS5 rotor fits on our platform?

    Hello !

The upgrade is with Q5 calipers (4 pots fixed), whereas the SQ5 has 2 pistons (and is floating).

So, i have taken the car once on track with those calipers. I can not aswer verry clearly since i had a little problem with brake fluid bubbles (entrapped in the ABS block and realeased at the first ABS triggering).
    The pedal was verry low...

Since it is cleared, but i did not return to track and did not have agressive driving...
But i have to say that modulation is good and the pedal feels solid.

I think that the first feature of these calipers is to be verry simple for pads swap and allows a hudge choice of pads coumpounds !!

I will do a feed back (with Girodisc rotor as well) in mid march after my next scheduled track day.

    See you !!

Resurrecting an old thread because my brake pad indicator has come on at 29,000 miles! Absurdly low mileage in my opinion but the dealer did warn me the light would be on soon. Definitely doing the Q5 caliper upgrade and am considering a rotor upgrade. Any in person experience to share on our 2-piece rotor options in the past year? Apikols look beefier than the others and I do like the lack of slots. JHM's are the best price by far but are they too thin? Are the Girodiscs's with the spring washers worth the price? Any input would be appreciated. Maybe not worth the cost and just go with regular rotors? On a related note: Anyone try those new Neuspeed calipers? They look pretty sweet but I'm not in position to pay the extra cost over the Q5 upgrade.

I'm still thinking about which rotor I will buy.

JHM is out of the equation ; look at their thread about bad quality cat-delete. Too many complains, I don't trust these rotor.
Apikol / Girodisc ; look the same to me except for the slot, same price, floating design, same weight too. Somehow I prefer the girodisc reputation, but i prefer non-slot. Both at 800$ tho... yikes!

Only reason I would want 2 piece is weight saving for quicker acceleration. however, I couldn't find any review saying they clearly felt an improvement in this area.. so decided to go one piece.

Brembo JUST CAME OUT, fresh of the baker, 2 new rotor for the Q5/S4.. I read the brochure and they look the sh*t.. Unless something came up within the next month, I will go this route. I mean.. it's brembo and it's a ''sport'' rotor which means it has enhancement over a oem replica.

    or theres the slotted Stoptech.

both rotor are about 300$, the 500$ saving can go toward other mods or.. the wife :P

Just had a chat with Brembo Italy.
They will release the 09.B040.1X in Q2 of 2017

Wouldn't 09.B970.11 be better as it uses pillars instead of veins/fins for cooling ??
