    Hey Guys:

My dealer is telling me that my front brakes/rotors will need to be replaced in a few months- they claim they are around 4mm. I have around 27k miles and use the car as my daily driver. Does this seem normal to you?

depends on how you use your car, but iv also read reports of people changing their pads @ 15k or so. so YMMV

Yes very normal for the fronts. Most are able to get more mileage out of the rears so make sure you clarify with your tech so that they arent charging you any more than you should.

I got ~35k out of my fronts and im at 50k+ now and still on the original rears and they still have plenty of life left on them.

But yea, as BK said - it's all how you drive the car.

As other have stated, this seems better than avg. based on what I've read/researched & most of it (my theory) depends on your driving style. My question is are U going to put OEM or R U going to put something aftermarket? If so what have U looked @ if anything? Cost? IIRC, some RS5 owners who've replaced have found good success w/Hawk pads via w/ECS (?). There have been a # of complaints regarding warping of the rotors & shuddering while braking. This has required replacing both pads & rotors w/low mileage/use. Thankfully this has not been a problem for either of us, but the solution for some who have posted (regarding the shuddering) seems to have been changing the pads which has eliminated the issue. Some claims have been covered by AOA & others have not(?) My 2013 Cab ( ~ 400lbs heavier) has ~ 13000+ on it & so far so good, but then again I don't drive aggressively let alone spirited. No real good place for that kind of driving around here. That in no way detracts for the smiles per gallon I get, every time I drive it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. This all just came about so haven't researched anything yet. I've always allowed the dealer to do any work on my car so that they can be responsible should something go wrong. Would it be better to replace with the ones that are on the car as stock now or ask them for a quote for Hawks? I don't drive very hard either other then the occasional quick burst here and there. Avg. cruising on highway is between 65-80.

I would do OEM rotors and use Hawk HPS pads for the front. In the back I would use the OEM pad. I don't believe the Hawk rear pads have brake pad wear sensor.

Stock RS5 pads are soft in comparison to a good pad.

I did a set of OEM front RS5 pads in a few months which included a couple of trackdays. I have now gone with Pagid RS4-2 for road and RS29 will be in when I do my next trackday next year.

I found the RS29 too hard. It will create heat issues as well, unless you get ducting done for the rotors. I've switched to StopTech 309's for the track & street with ECS tru-float rotors. Not sure what rotor options you have in the UK

I had to replace mine on my S4 at 25K

Urgh! Feel you pain man LOL

I would recommend going with something like this as you can replace just the rings in the future since they are 3 piece. We do offer different pads as well.

I agree with Chris... I got 4k out of mine before audi admitted they were faulty as they were warped. Now just hoping to get 10k more miles on my new pads and rotors. I think 20k+ miles on a single set for such a heavy car is great IMO.

I have the ECS fully floating disc's. No matter where you are in the world you can get anything form anywhere within days :)

I will be doing a duct mod to get as much air flowing on to the rotors as possible but if these pads are too hard I can always get a slight softer pad. Could even see how the RS4-2 goes for 1 track outing.

For anyone with an RS5 or RS5 brakes, have a set of front OE pads sitting here collecting dust, so why not 50% off to the first person:

    RS5 Front Brake Pads (w/ wear sensor) - $225.00 pair (Retail - $450.00)

    Hey guys...

I have 25K on my 2013 RS5 and delership told me to get both brakes and rotors replaced.

Is this the usual case with Audi's that both have to be replaced or i can go for only brake pads?

    Thanks

For best results with performance brakes, you want to change rotors and pads at the same time. That's also the official recommendation from Audi. Theoretically if the rotors still have sufficient material on them and are in proper working condition, then you could keep the rotors. Ultimately it depends on how you use and drive the car. Most likely you can keep the rear rotors for a second set of pads, that's what I did. The rear brakes don't do much work on this car, however, I replaced the front rotors with new aftermarket rotors. If you go aftermarket, you can get better rotors and pads for less money and have them installed at a good indy shop for a fraction of the labor cost you would pay at the dealer. Since brakes are wear items, there is no need to have the work done at a dealership. It won't affect warranty or anything.
