    Exclamation Hard Start HELP!!!

This is my first post on audizine so please excuse any mistakes I make.
I have a 2008 A6 quattro 3.2 and I am having a pretty bad issue with the car cranking over for a long time before it starts when it's cold. When it is really cold the car will stop cranking and I have to turn the key again (I assume this is to protect the starter). I did some looking on this forum and ended up replacing the battery and the fuel filter but neither did a thing. There are no engine lights and I also have a VAG-COM which shows no codes. I took out the spark plugs with the intention of replacing them but ended up putting them back in because they looked like they were brand new. I don't think that it is a fuel pump because it is not starved at all for fuel once it is started. The only other thing that I can think of is coilpacks. Does anybody have any ideas about what this might be before I replace the coilpacks? I wanted to check because doing a set of 6 coilpacks is pretty expensive. Thanks!!

Doubt it's the coils. Have you ever done a carbon cleaning? Is this the first winter you've had the car?

Yes this is my first winter with the car I bought it about 2 months ago. No I haven't done a carbon cleaning. I have seen a few people talking about it in forums but I don't know what it is. What does one of those entail and what are the expenses like?

I had a similar issue where my car cranked all the way over but didn't start. I pulled a code using vagcom (I forget what it was exactly) but I ended up replacing the crankshaft position sensor. My epc light would also come on when the car actually did start. Since replacing that sensor and all my plugs I haven't had an issue since.

Would it be possible for me to have the same issue without an engine code or epc light?

It's possible but I think your best bet would be maybe scan the car again to see if you could pull a code. I had a friend do the work for me, and the part was about $150 but a shop might try to charge you a bunch of money more bc of where the sensor is.

Ok I will scan it again and see if I pull a code. Is the sensor in a really hard spot? I can do all the work myself but I just cant have my car out of commission for too long.

I have heard of some people having cam position sensors going bad. What are the symptoms of that? Could that possibly be my issue.

Basically every now and then when I'd go to start, I'd push start and the car would crank all the way over and not start or it would start kinda hard and the epc light would come on. If I turned it off and back on it was like nothing ever happened. No other real symptoms for me but I can't speak to anyone else's experience. I'm not exactly sure where the sensor is, but I'm sure someone on here can probably help you out. Best of luck
