    Blowing fan noise?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2010 S4 is going in for her 75k service and I recently noticed an abnormally loud blowing fan noise from the engine. I turned off climate control and lifted the hood and could hear and feel the air in the engine bay. Last week, I noticed when I turned off the car, a fan was still running, but eventually shut off after about 30 seconds. I can hear this noise while driving, basically with the car on. Any ideas what this could be a symptom of?

    Ding-ding, we have a winner!

OP- Shocked that you have a 2010 with 75k and not had one replaced yet. I'm sure your dealer would be more than happy to take your $ 800 75k service and turn it into a $ 2000 bill.

Yes, appears to be thermostat as it was fluctuating as I drove it in.

They said I had the water pump replaced and because of that, they extended the warranty to 5 yrs, 100k miles. Now I am just passed 5 years they said. Always works out like that, huh?!

Should I try to negotiate them to cover the thermastat or part of it? Anyone had luck with that? Considering I'm just a few months past 5 yrs and well under 100k?

$2000? Are you serious? I was anticipating $350-400 for the 75k service... I even have this maintenance list I think I got from this site:

Sorry, was thinking you were getting DSG service at 75k, and adding another $1200 for T-stat on that. You have nothing to lose by trying to get some love from them, they know the T-stat is a POS time bomb.

unfortunately the timing of the dieselgate scandal has vag reeling and AOA is not interested in helping out the end user by helping on repair bills.

I might suggest having it done by an independent garage to save money. If you have had any oil consumption issues you might think about having the PCV valve replaced while the Supercharger is off.

Aren't you supposed to replace the supercharger belt at 75K? Might as well throw that into the mix, too.

Might as well put on a smaller pulley and go Stage 2 while at it, !
