    C5 A6 help please

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey I have a 2000 C5 A6 that needs work done. I have to replace water pump and heater core and trying not to spend a ton of money on parts. I'm trying to fix the car so I can drive it for a couple months while I try to sell it. I would sell it how it is but I don't think I would get any more than $1500 tops. I've put a lot of money and time into my baby and would like my help I can get. I plan on doing it myself bc a shop would easily charge me over $1500. I found own heater core for $300 and pump for $300. Ecstuning is looking a little pricey right now 😕 Anyone have any a6 they are parting out?!?! Helpppp please

Gonna need to pull dash to replace heater core. Try to flush it with boiling water or crc first, or do you have a coolant leak and its too late? Nothing in these cars is cheap, will be hard to fix and get your money back but you never know.

My water pump has been leaking for awhile. And while it was leaking I tried to bring it to a shop. On the way there the heater core blew and just ruined my day even more.

I'm aware of all the water in my car I vacuumed out. Was trying to find help finding the parts I'll need and maybe if anyone is in the Chicagoland area they could help me with some pointers/special tools I might need? I'll make it worth your time if you can please help me out. Happy holidays everyone

That heater core project is insane. No matter how good you are or how much knowledge you have it's a huge job. The entire dash has to come out. All of it. Many shops charge 12-16 hours for heater core R&R- typically 8 hours minimum. I've never done one, and would probably crash my car straight into a wall before bothering. Not because I can't do it or it's too big of a project- but more because I'd be so fucking angry that fixing a pretty simple part requires so much work.
I don't know which one I'd do first; water pump or heater core. Water pump might be easier, but it's dirtier. Can't drive if the water pump goes out though.

Replace the water pump and bypass the heater core so you can drive the car.

You can fine quality parts at rockauto.com. I would use a gates water pump. What engine do you have?

OE parts can be very overpriced.

Many aftermarket parts can be had for cheap but of are low quality.

Gates is a high quality OE supplier and aftermarket supplier.

The heater hose is 5/8" Get a 5/8" male male hose adapter from home depot. Disconnect the hose at the core (behind the battery) and connect them together.

There is a posting on the AudiWorld site , C5 Forum, called "Heater Core replacement". With the procedure to replace the heater core without removing the dash. There is a video posted as well. Several posters have said it can be done by simply removing the lower driver side panel and sliding it out. Check it out. It absolutely looks possible on the C5..
    Good luck.

just get a good oem grade belt. contitech or something similar. just did timing in my 2.7 c5 and the contitech timing belt was made in mexico (i know but better than china) and the drive belt, the one you want to replace, was made in germany, also contitech.

change the belt before it breaks or starts slipping

The water pump is driven by the timing belt, not the serpentine belt on a 2.7T ....
