Best bang for your buck V8 S5?

I'm looking at purchasing my first Audi, ever. I want the S5 with the 4.2L V8. I'm thinking about a '10 model or higher because of the LED tails and I want to avoid the first model year. Any word of advice? Just how reliable are these engines? My Escalade and Corvette Stingray with the 6.2L have never let me down and I have driven these motors beyond 200,000k. Can I expect the same reliability out of the S5?

I bought my S5 with 89,000 miles on it last year. It's a 2010 in black, picked it up for 25k from a model in Hollywood who bought a brand new S5 in white.
The car now has about 122,000 miles on it. In that time, I've had very few real issues. Motor mounts, a leaking coolant reservoir covered by the dealership, and recently a serpentine replacement along with brakes.

Unless I told you how many miles the car had, you would never know. The engine still kicks hard and starts up 100% of the time no problem. Technology today has improved the real lifespan of a car. My car before this was a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, and with almost the exact same mileage I had that thing towed 3 times a year with AAA every single year of college.

Aside from needing a carbon clean you shouldn't have much to worry about. This has just been my experience however and every car is different. My results though, for anyone on the fence of buying a high mileage 5, say go for it and have a blast. You won't even know the miles are there.

You need to drive a 3.0t S5 before you make that purchase

Go for it...they tend to have little no issues (minor stuff as mentioned above) and the 4.2 on the b8 s5 became one of Audi's most solid engines. Just the sound alone is worth the 4.2 over the 3.0. My business partner has a 3.0 S5 and I wouldn't change my car for a 3.0. Of course, it's a matter of taste, but if you have your mind set on it, don't let someone who prefers a 3.0 (which is a personal opinion, not gospel) pull you away from it. I personally prefer the look of the b8 as well - it looks more mature, aggressive, and planted; again, this is just a personal opinion and a matter of taste...not looking to get the 19 year olds hyped up about which car looks better. Here's an encouragement video, from the day we both installed AWE Track exhausts (he has the aftermarket downpipes as well on his 3.0, I just have the exhaust). :)
