    Mis in Cyl 3

Hey guys and gals, my phantom misfire in cyl 3 is back. :( I just did a carbon cleaning, and the valves were AWFUL but nice and clean now. I though that would clear it up, but it didn't really have an affect on anything. I've replaced all the coils and plugs too, also didn't fit it. My next thought would be the injector, but input is appreciated. It only stumbles and CELs when under a load at 4K+ rpm, and it's always cyl 3.

Also for those curious to how bad the carbon was:

I have heard (read) that people have had to change out injectors after a carbon clean. Coils and spark plugs are new so injector is the next logical item.

This is going to sound dumb, but make sure your plug gap is correct. but if it misfired before the spark plug change, that probably isn't the issue. lol

Nah, that's not dumb, it's something easily overlooked. I've moved and replaced coils and plugs though, so they're pretty much ruled out.

That would have been my next suggestion. Sounds like you are getting there. Back when I had My turbocharged A4, I changed out the plugs. Every time I was under boost, It would misfire like crazy. Long story short, it was the plug gap. My buddies still give me crap about it haha

I'm looking into this again, and since it's only happening at load, it's not bothering me too much. I did a VCDS scan, and got this.

It looks like the coil in cyl 2 is reading lower than the rest, which is odd, but the injector response time is high. I read somewhere that it should be below .45ms. Any thoughts? I really don't want to have to pull the intake manifold, and fuel rails off again to move injectors around, but that's what it's looking like I am going to have to do. Anyone know how to get the buggers out? When I had it apart last, I tried pulling up on one but no dice.

What voltage is being measured? The voltage signal sent to the injector?

I have taken the fuel rail off. I even have some instructions from the service manual I can send you if you'd like. Just be really careful with the clips, and it should come right out. At least on the 4.2. I'll look for instructions for the 3.2 later

It's scary playing with $1000+ worth of fragile components that are stuck in place, butnit does come out lol

No kidding haha. I'll try being gentle with the clips, last time I was in there I broke the stupid coolant line, everything that's plastic is so brittle now. :\

Did you break anything while you were in there?

The injectors are the issue, fuel rail is no problem. And I have no idea what voltage it's measuring, but coil 2 was consistently low.
