    Battery Help..Thanks in advance!

So my battery dead yesterday while doing errands. Roadside Assistance came and jumped me no problem. Drove around a bit to try to charge it up but I have been home bound with small kids and only have so many cold starts left on this battery it seems.

Can you guys clear something up for me? I read
    • You need to take it to the dealer or have some sort of Aux battery to keep the car "alive" while you swap out batteries or the computer and radio will need a reset. (Also have some mods, lights, gauge sweep etc that people report will get wiped)
    • Also saw reports of no such issue.

Before I pick up a battery and swap it out or spend the $$$ at the dealer.....what is the deal with changing the battery?

    I appreciate your help!

Some change the battery and that's it. Others claim you're supposed to code the battery in vcsd. There are threads on this.

Just change the battery out. Nothing will get reset other than the time and date maybe. It is recommended to change a number through vagcom so it is recognized as a new battery. If you don't do this, it is not the end of the world lol. I bought mine from the dealer.

You need a compatible battery for optimal and adequate charge from your vehicle... You could use any batteries, but the ones that are not programmed into the ecu will be affected life wise.

How does programming affect the life of the battery?

Thanks guys, changed it out and it fired right up with everything except time and date intact. Will have to look into how to program for the new battery.

Check the batteries warranty first. I had mine replaced by dealer free of charge
