    PCV Valve diaphragm

I replaced my pcv valve last year. Got the symptoms again - 2187, 2279, p0441, as well as strong suction on the oil cap with the car running.

I figured it was cause of the crap PCV valve i got off ebay for $40. So I went to my local import store and bought an aftermarket. Get home, and it's exactly what's on the car - a vaico.

I remember when my stock one failed I pulled it apart to see if there was anything to see. There was a torn rubber boot.

When I got my PCV valve off I decided to take it apart. Yes, same issue with the torn boot.

Bought a dorman pcv valve diaphragm from O'reillys for $30 and problem is solved.

Returning the $100 piece of junk that I bought.

    Just FYI.

    My bad diaphragm seal.

Got to tell you though, i have replaced the dorman one on my car about 3 times now in a period of 5 months. Not a problem since it has lifetime warranty and it only takes about 15 mins to switch it out but i think its kind of inferior. Btw, when you reach to the back of the hole of the cap do you get a slight suction at all?

The last cap had suction. I felt for it after I replaced this, and nothing so far.

I think you're right and that this will fail. I think the design in general is pretty weak, which is why they beefed up the revised version. It beats replacing it with a $100+ aftermarket unit that will fail just as soon. Probably the same diaphragm. I am willing to bet most failures are due to the diaphragm seal.
