    no throttle response, limp mode

hi. this is not the first time this has happened to me but it has been the first time in a while. i noticed that whenever the car would go into limo mode it would either have to be raining or snowing. well yesterday it wasn't raining or snowing and as i was going to the store the car went into limp mode. i could turn it off and turn it back on with no problem. when i got out the store i tried accelerating in neutral and there was zero response. as soon as i would put it in 1st, i accelerate it and it would actually accelerate. from the previous times the car has gone into limp mode i did not try to accelerate while on neutral. i read up a bit and people were saying to check the grounds. i have done that and that's what fixed my problem the first time. it lasted well over a year with no issues. when i got home i used vagcom to diagnose it and it popped up this code.
    008504- accelerator position sensors (G79) / (G185)
    P2138 - 008 - implausible correlation= MIL ON

i did search for a answer but to other that have this problem say they had the 02 sensor wires short circuit, causing the ecu to fry. i have had none of this things happen to me as i wasn't messing around with my 02 sensors. another thing. i am not that familiar with vag com and only know the basics since ive only had it for a few weeks. is there any test you guys can recommend on me doing via vagcom that can help pin point the problem. i was not getting weird rpms or anything like that just the car in limp mode with the epc and traction control light on. i can try and check the grounds again to see if that's what causing the problem but i don't think that is the case. but just to be on the safe side in case there is a ground that i don't know about, where are the grounds on this car? much help is appreciate it. oh yeah almost forgot to mention. i ended up going to the store again and when i was in the parking lot i was shutting off and turning on the car a few times. the lights went away and haven't returned and also limp mode is gone. but still i know something is wrong and i want to fix it. thanks in advance for all the input.

So i tried searching for the j257 but couldnt really find anything. Do you happen to know what the dealer would name this relay? I want to get a pricing on it.

Yeah i know right. Imagaine all the cars clogging up the road because they are all in limp mode. Lmao. Back to seriousness, when the problem was more common thats when i noticed that it would do it. As i mention before, i read that sometimes this happens due to the grounds beign dirty. I cleaned up the ground by the battery and it fixed the problem for over a year. Untill recently it started doing it again. Now that i actually have the income to figure out what it is and fix it i want to do it. I dont want to be riding around in limp mode or beign scared that it might rain because of this issue. Silveravant mentioned the 614 relays but when i looked online there were several of them popping up. Do you guys know of the part number or official name of the particular relay?

Yeah, it is really weird. There's quite a few threads in here with issues regarding extremely cold, rain, snow interfering with our cars. For one, my trunk latch acts crazy sometimes and refuses to close/lock tightly or at least stop rattling while driving. Others have experienced this with their gas doors, etc...

Yeah Idk what happens that it seems to affect our cars in a really weird and almost impossible to diagnose. But maybe your latch just needs some wd-40 or some thing. I've experienced my handbrake wire lines rust in place and had to replace them On my b6. Mechanical wise it's easier to diagnose. Also i don't remember if i mentioned this but while on limp mode, i tried clearing the code and it would instantaneously come back. It wasn't until i was out of limp mode that i was able to clear the code.

The part # of the 614 relays I replaced was 8E0 951 253. There are 2 614 relays, one for engine and the other for fuel pump power. I replaced both because I wasn't sure which was which and they are pretty cheap. I think there is an upgraded part #, but not sure. The relays I took out looked/tested fine, but I have not had the limp mode since. The ECU box has been also known to leak so that may explain the problem when it rains. Sometimes if work is done inside the ECU box the mechanic is too lazy to remove the windshield wiper and cowl cover to get to the rear screw and just breaks off the rear corner of the box.

Any luck with this? I used to have this problem. After driving for 15 mins or so if I shut of the car and then restarted (like going into the Quicky Mart( for a 6 pack) and restarting it would light the ESP light and go into limp mode. After restarting several times the CEL would illuminate and it would go out of limp mode. After a while the CEL would go out. After I replaced the 614 relays I have not had the problem. The weird thing is that the relays seemed/tested fine. I really hope this helps you out, because ever since my A4 has been 100%.

silveravant, sorry for the super late response. for some reason I think I unsubscribed accidentally and did not get the notification. I have not yet been able to get to this, I have a b6 that has a power loss/running lean issue that is my dd and pretty much its the one that gets driven and its first choice for anything unless I want to do some spirited driving and feel more power than I take my b7. how much did you get them for and where. I might just buy them and do it on a weekend or something I mean its not that hard to do. let me know if you come upon any issues or have had any so far. it has not happened to me again but I know it will eventually and I would like to fix it before it happens. again sorry for the super late response
