    Needing opinions on b5 v8's

    Hey guys, I'm Mike.

    i have a 2000 A4 5M Q

I've been in talks with the great Audi2ptzero about building a stroker motor with my 058 block atw head having bastard year b5 lol

However, the fact that I have seen a rise in completed v8 swaps in our chassis has perked my ears.

That being said I'm more looking for a power to dollar ratio between the two swaps.

I'm also concerned with how these 4.2l have been rarely broken in properly and have thus resulted in them eating oil like a mfer
or how the timing chain on them needs replacing every 60k lol

What's some of ya'll opinions of the swaps?

    thanks in advanced!

    All Over!

First, I must ask which V8 you're referring to? I only ask, as you mention timing chains. The early V8 motors had chains too, but only to link both intake and exhaust camshafts within the cylinder heads.

The main drive was via a toothed belt.

You haven't done enough(if any) research. Search, read, digest, repeat...you will have zero questions. Who told you that they are rarely "broken in" properly??? The notion of "breaking in" an engine isn't as scientific as people in the "other" forums seem to think. Start the engine, bring it up to temp, drive it normally for a little bit, change the oil after 1-3k miles, and you are done. I'ts pretty hard to mess up. I've dealt with two junkyard 4.2 engines and neither has burnt or leaked any oil.

I knew someone would tell me to search lol
I have been but I guess my post wasn't as clear as I thought lol

I've talked to some b6 and b7 s4 owners with the 4.2 and they said that about the break in when you first but the car

Just trying get a better idea from the experienced heads before I go in head first with the actual pen and ink research

That's because the 4.2 in the B6/B7 S4 sucks. And it sucks hard. Don't get one of those.

What you want is the belt-drive 4.2 out of the D2 A8/S8 or C5 A6/S6.

    I love mine. And we don't use the b6-b7 engine, it's the c5 a6 belt driven v8

Damn...that's so much cleaner than mine. My coolant tank is leaking, you just gave me inspiration to relocate it! Where did you put the tank and the ABS?

It's behind the firewall where the battery used to be.
