    What's up guys,

First off that squealing issue I had, has been rectified. Turns out it's a brake issue.

I am now in the market for some sort of vag com /vcds cable and software. As some of you know I'm coming from subarus and all of this is very new to me. I was reading a little bit and seems like Ross tech is the way to go, but I didn't know if there was alternatives out there. I would also like to be able to use the software on my girlfriends 08 rabbit if possible.

    Thanks!

Ross-Tech is the only way to get a legit one. They're expensive but worth it. The HEX+CAN USB one should work for both of your cars. Also definitely get the unlimited license.

I agree about Ross tech , if you got the money you should have one around. But if you looking for a little bit more handy whether you choose to get a Rosstech or not, definitely jump onto the Carista app. From what I see it looks like a promising future and investment for the company. $46 for both the Carista dongle and pro app. Only reason you would need a rosstech is to play with your coding, all the other fancy stuffs, Carista does I believe if I'm not wrong.

^ This could be another alternative depending on your use case. Carista can do most of the feature enabling and it can read and clear basic check engine faults. If you want to be able to do more in-depth things (HID conversions, complex fault codes, changing LED brightness, data logging, etc) you'd need the actual VAGCOM cable and software.

I agree, with all the things you can do with Ross-Tech cable it is well worth the original investment and will pay for it self in the long run.
