    5hp19 transmission problem

I am having a problem with my transmission I just can't figure out. It was slipping in 3,4,5 and would start searching for gears when at wot or say trying to pass on the highway. So I took it in and they diagnosed it as bad clutch packs and we went ahead and rebuilt the entire transmission. They got it back in and it is still doing the same thing, the work was done by a very good transmission shop so I know it was rebuilt right. Does anyone know what could be the problem or test I could run? I have access to a vagcom. I only have two guesses possibly the valve body or the tcm. But it is very strange because under normal driving condition it drives fine but spirted drive it completely slips.

Was the valve body replaced or rebuilt? And why isn't this "shop" fixing it instead of you trying to figure it out?

    Slipping transmission

A good starting point would be to completely understand the work that was done. Try to post an itemized list from the repair bill, it will give us more to work on.
How many miles on it at the time of rebuild?

    The car has 143000 miles

Here is the parts they replace:
    filter
    low clutch race
    5hp19 overhaui kit
    5hp19 od housing
    5hp19 inner low race
    center support assm

They didn't replace the torque convertor because they said it tested fine. There is no TC code and the TC was replaced about 20,000 miles ago. The only code was an incorrect gear ratio code. I believe it is the TC not locking up but I thought it would run a code. Also, it is not going into limpmode so I dont think it is the TCM. It pulls fine in first and second but when you you get into 3 or higher the engine revs and the rpms stay around 4000. They are now bringing it to the dealership to get it diagnosed but I just wanted to see if anyone know what it could possibly be.

    Slipping Transmission

It's a great idea just to let your transmission shop work the issue. Let us know what they come up with.

It's about a 5HP24, but you may find the solution below interesting:

Was your code a 01119-Gear Recognition Signal?

How do you know if the shop did it right or not? If your experiencing the same problem, either the shop didn't do it right or they didn't fix the problem.

So, Ive been doing some searching. Im really really inexperienced on transmissions, but does anyone think this sounds like a failed torque converter?

    Torque Converter

    Here's a good explanation of how a 5hp19 torque converter works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdREgCf0z30

Was your Valve Body rebuilt or replaced?

Scotty I don't know know for certain that they did it right but they are a good transmission shop and they did mine on my last allroad and it was perfect. I'm just coming here for advice on what could possibly be the problem if hypothetically the clutch pack and all the internals are good. I'm leaning towards a bad torque converter but I would think it would have thrown a code. I just cant find much information on bad valve bodies and all the torque converter threads are about the seal. I would like to mention it does have an Advanced Automotion street sauce TC in it that I bought from you a couple years back. It only have 25000 miles on it and the car only has a stage 2 tune so any insight from you Scotty would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't keep driving it if issues are presents, just take it back and be like, "it no fixy!"

A torque converter won't cause your issues. A converter has nothing to do with slipping gears, it either works or it doesn't and is not gear specific.

Take it back to the shop and let them figure it out, it's their warranty.

Curious why wait this long, eventually they will say it's too late.... bring it back, otherwise it's all your fault haha
