Can someone list the link to a DIY for brakes...The fronts are easy, its just the rears I am concerned about. I have a VAG-COM just wanted to know the steps in VCDS and wrench sizes. I looked and searched the forums but could only find front DIY

what is the need for a battery charger? Can't I just keep the ignition on after opening the parking brake, changing the pads only takes like 10-15 min? Or can you just open the parking brake then turn off the ignition then once done turn on and then close and cycle? Also what are the bolt sizes?

Depends on how solid your battery is. The rear brake pad swap is the first time I got a message on the dash display of a weak battery.

I took awhile to do the brake change for the rear - I cleaned my calipers and replaced my lines too. If you are just doing a pad swap, you should be fine.

I just changed all my pads and painted my calipers last night. I put the parking break in service mode (VCDS calls it "bed lining" or something, but it's under the parking break section), then turned the car off so VCDS was disconnected. I had no problem changing the pads. I left it off all night while the caliper paint dried. Then this morning i put the breaks back together, hooked up the VAG Com and turned off the service mode ("stop bed lining"). No issues.

Pictures of calipers with the wheels on? I've debated painting mine. But I don't want to damage the S4 badges... and I think painting the rears would look pathetic because of how small they are!

I'm still learning how to do images on here... so be patient with me.

The S4 badge is a plate that you pry off before you paint, so don't worry about that. Just stick a flat head in there and gentle pry it up. There are 2 posts that hold it in place.

Thanks for the images. Maybe I'll do it next time I'm bored and it's getting dark out so I can leave the car over night.

Hi I have an 2010 A6 Quattro and about to do my rear brakes as well. A year ago I purchased the online manual for like 200 bucks. Its been great and it includes software for the VCDS. Unfortunately I don't have any cables. I wanted to do the job this weekend. I live in Dallas, TX. Would there be a local place to get the cable

So there is no need for a battery charger then bc i don't have one. I was planning on doing the same thing, use VCDS to open the parking brake, turn the car off, once finished, turn the car back on. I just wanted to confirm there is no issue or problems with turning the car off for about 30-45 min while I do both side. Every forum i read, people have been saying you need to keep the car in acc while doing the brakes??

I did not use a battery charger. I had the car in accessory mode, started up VCDS and opened the parking break, turned the car and laptop both off (closed out of VCDS on the laptop), completed my work on the brakes, waited around 9 hours, then turned the laptop and car back on and closed the parking brake.
