'press clutch pedal to start engine'

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got in my 01 s4 6 speed manual to come home from work and... no crank. I noticed that the dash continuously had the 'press clutch pedal to start engine' indicator illuminated regardless of the position of the clutch pedal. I'm guessing a clutch pedal position indicator, or something related. Wondering if there is an easy bypass to get the car home or if I should count on working on it where it sits in my company parking facility. any advice or links would be appreciated.

Maybe your clutch sensor switch is misaligned. Look under the clutch pedal and see if the clutch pedal makes contact with the clutch sensor switch. When you press the clutch to the floor. You can also bypass the switch with a wire or clip. Link to bypass the switch below.

Xalents link is a good one.
Stuff one of the mini blade fuses in this connector and it should crank without having to push the pedal.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Thanks for those 2 replies, the parking facility at work is inside and dark all the time, tomorrow I'll bring a work light and a tool box with me and make it start if the problem isn't more complex, but as I've learned with this car it ain't fixed til it's fixed.

Take your vagcom just in case.

Prob need a deep 1/4 drive 8mm socket/ratchet for the bolts that hold the knee bar on.
They are behind the plastic trim pieces so a pick tool or something to get them off without fk'n em up.

If that fails, and you can connect with vagcom, push-start or jump 12v to the starter connector on the firewall.

So took some tools ( including my 1/4" drive kit) and a light to work with me, also had my tablet with this thread open, in under 20 minutes had the car started and drove it home. The plunger switch was in perfect position and wiring seemed tight, just in case I pushed the plunger in as far as possible and tried to start the car(in nuetral of course)... nothing, after pulling the connector and shorting the contacts - instant crank. Will try to order a new switch before the inevitable happens. Thanks for the responses Zillarob and xalents
