    hand brake cover removal

Hello everyone, Ive been trying to remove my rear center console so I can get at my handbrake cables an see why my e brake is no longer working.
I had pulled the cup holder already and saw that the cable was loose in the assembly that tightens it, so I don't know if its an issue inside or near outside where the adjusters are.
I have the console loose but haven't been able to figure out how to remove the leather cover on the handbrake itself.
Ive read countless DIY's and searched for hours and can't seem to figure it out.
I have the rear piece loose but will be unable to remove if I cannot get the front piece off.
    any help will be appreciated!

THANK YOU, that saved me so much time!! A second question that I have is how do I fix this. First pic is of the handbrake disengaged
Do I tighten the cable from the two locations near the rear control arms? It doesn't seem like there's enough of the threaded piece to tighten it that much.
