Audi Pure Protection Quote on S3 is outrageous!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi there,

I just called my Audi dealer I purchased my vehicle from asked them to give me a quote for audi pure protection extended warranty. The finance manager quoted me $6,400 for 7Y/100K mile, platinum level. It is outrageously expensive quote. I know that other dealers will for sure give me a better quote but still it is too much. The obvious question that comes up to my mind, are our vehicles so risky? Generally higher the risk the more expensive insurance gets. So based on this quote it is reasonable to conclude that S3 8Vs are likely to have some major issues between 50K - 100K miles.

When I had my A6 C7 I knew that Audi owners may call directly to Fidelity Warranty Services and get a quote from them. It would be a lot cheaper than buying the policy from a dealer. But now apparently you can only purchase Audi Pure Protection plan from Audi dealers. If anybody knows a better/cheaper way to get the coverage please share it with us.

    Thanks!

I got the same warranty you were quoted on but for $2,600 CDN. The full price quoted to me was $3,500. And that was for platinum level coverage.

I would ask for a serious discount...

Thanks for advice. I will try calling other dealers as well to see who offers the best price. But $6,400 starting price is just ridiculous. My car currently has 9,400 miles so it should not be that bad.

Switch to geico and get their mechanical breakdown insurance. Might add another 10% to your yearly premium. Pays for anything audi won't cover up to 7yrs 100k. Only 250 out of pocket deductible per incident.

Yes, its saved me a couple times on my old A4. They step in when the dealer won't cover it. Haven't had to use it yet on my current car though.

Geico saved me 9000 dollars for an engine replacement when Audi denied my warranty claim after a stage 1 tune. (10 month old vehicle 15,000 miles that I wasn't abusing ie: racing etc)

Geico was great to deal with on the mechanical breakdown claims department, I never waited on hold, I would call and get to speak to the "senior adjusters" immediately. I told them that I'd recommend them whenever anyone asked about the coverage. And so I'll do it now. I'm not saying they'll cover everything and every scenario... but at least for me, they really came through and saved me an expensive bill.

The coverage starts off really cheap, but does get more expensive every year, I think if you kept it for the full 7 years, you'd probably end up paying 2,000ish . And you're required to get it when the car is new (first year of ownership and first 10,000 miles I think). For essentially what is just an extra 3 years of coverage. And you're also required to have geico insurance as well (of course). Which often isn't the cheapest plan, but usually is "competitive"

Wow, first time hearing about this Gieco thing! Sounds awesome as Audi doesn't cover emissions in extended warranty.

can you explain why your engine blew so early? Is that a common thing with tuned S3s?

so this Geico thing covers even aftermarket parts as well or not? there is very little info on their website about it explaining how it works.

Aftermarket parts? What were you thinking specifically? I mean you could read the insurance policy yourself, but what aftermarket part is going to "fail". That isn't considered a wear and tear part. Ie: it doesn't cover things like clutches, or brake pads.

As far as adding aftermarket parts to your car and getting them covered under your insurance, that is totally possible to do with most providers, just give them the value of the part and whatnot.

Nope: no clue why it failed so early, it is an A3, didn't do an entire tear down to diagnose the piston failing, and really it's what anyone wants to believe. Audi says it was the fault of the tune, the tuner says that it was likely going to fail regardless or maybe the dealership screwed up somehow on the oil change. The dealership that did my oil change 50 miles before it failed says that there was no chance that their oil change could have possibly caused the failure. Possibly unrelated, but my heater wasn't working when I got my car put back together and I did get a new thermostat, but that "probably" is only because the part was sitting dry for too long during the replacement process. (My car broke down oct 12, and I'm going today to pick it up(for the 2nd time))

Like I said, I was very happy with the geico MBI process.

OP, take the money you want to put down on Audi's Pure warranty and open up a "Audi rainy day" fund. IMHO, it's pointless to buy coverage for your vehicle that is already covered by the OEM warranty. Until 4yr/50K is up, Audi's warranty covers everything that Pure covers. After that time frame, it's a different story unless you have Pure. I would seriously wait until your close to end of term, then call up and request a quote then.

I agree that It is a good idea to wait until manufacturer's warranty expires and then purchase extended warranty. As far as I see there are two main advantages: one - frequently our plans change before the original warranty expires. One very common example is I traded in my prior two cars before they hit 50K miles. Both times I had extended warranty so I was only able to get prorated amount of the original cost, about 60%. Second advantage - by the time the car hits 50K miles I would know a lot better if the car is going to be a mechanical headache as apposed to the car at around 10K miles. In which instance I would have more information and thus be able to make more educated decision to purchase the warranty or not. So yes it is a lot better option to wait until warranty expires before purchasing Pure Protection Plan. BUT as with any other insurance policy on the market the premium goes as the car ages. So in theory the cost of the warranty should be substantially lower to purchase at say 10K miles vs at 45K miles. To be honest the reason I am willing to pay upfront for the warranty now (despite having original warranty) is because I am hoping to pay a lot less than what I would have to like in three years from now. But $6,400 quote for S3 at 10K is simply outrageous. I would agree to purchase the plan (7/100K/Platinum) that costs no more than $3K. Everything more than that is a rip off.

If you're set on picking up the Pure, let me dig around and see if I can get you a contact to save some serious cash. The person's name is Troy and his company has escaped my mind at this moment. He is a Fidelity dealer and sells you the same thing Audi would, but VASTLY cheaper.

Sounds good. I would be happy to talk directly to a Fidelity guy. When i called them I was told they dont sell directly to customers, dealers do. So yes please.
