If you could do it again: K04 or GT28rs as a daily driver

I know this has been covered before, mainly the threads i have been reading were years and years old. Ill give the whole story but if you could do it all over again would you go K04 or GT28rs on your car and why would you make this choice. Is your car more of a daily, weekend car or track/racing primarily.

My story... I just sold my B5s4 sedan which had k04s. I was looking at a b8 avant but found a stage 3 b5 s4 avant with a blown motor as a possible new semi daily(I drive my truck alot and have other toys I drive sometimes). The avant has GT28rs turbos which have alot of miles and I am considering if I will rebuild the gt28 or just buy K04s and sell the GT kit. The new motor that is probably going in the car is a stock 60k mile engine and I will be doing the timing belt, clutch and so on all at once, dont want to pull the motor out again. Since I have owned a b5s4 before I know the reliability my k04 car had(not the best) so a bit worried about reliability on the gt cars. I have not been in a gt28 car before, i do love the low end instant boost my k04 car had. I did my K04s back in about 2006 when the GT cars were just really becoming popular so havent done a ton of research since then

If you don't plan on doing rods, sell the gt kit and go with rs4 or rs6 turbos. The gts will just at more lag and you won't get the benefit of high power without rods so you'll end up with a small powerband.

Thank you Monty23. Thats pretty much the conclusion I am coming to. I dont really think I have the true want to go through an engine rebuild on one of these motors. With the stock 60k motor and a set of k04s I can be up and running in a few days

best to keep it as simple as you can if you plan on putting some miles on it. Like you said, even with K04's, reliability shits the bed. I've driven just about every popular turbo setup for these cars and for a stock motor, K04's still are my favorite, the power band is awesome for a daily.
