Hilarious yet depressing reminder of my age

I've been driving my new S4 6MT for about a week now, but not in long stretches...until today.

I haven't had a stick shift for several years... So I got home today, parked, got out, and my left ankle hurts! Are you kidding me? What a cruel joke that age has played on me!

    LOL
You'd be surprised how much a small adjustment in seat angle will relieve that. Also make sure and use your dead pedal while not shifting... old man

....But the OEM clutch is so light and the OEM DMFW and all the nannies (slave line) give you all the time in the world for perfect rev matched / shifts.

I guess the moral of this story is don't get old?

Discouraging as I've never had ankle problems. Hopefully it's just temporary. Weird too because I work out daily... Who knew one had to work out just to drive a stick!?!?

Maybe you slightly tweaked it while working out and it didn't really bother you at first? My knees give me issues if I've been sitting in my car too long, but I also have pretty bad knees.

Just got my 6MT a few weeks ago and it's actually made me realize how much I DO need that third pedal! (44 years old). I've adjusted my seat a few times and use that dead pedal foot rest often. Every day it gets better and easier. No regrets on the third pedal!

Getting older, one needs to work out regularly to keep up strength & flexibility, since every decade, it gets more difficult to prevent injuries. Some of us drive auto transmissions for medical reasons.

Not with the clutch, but when i got this car, my right leg practically got shin splints from using the gas pedal so much. Hurt for a good couple days after the first week of driving.

    Ha! That I can imagine.

I think I was using too much foot and not enough leg, if that makes sense. I was using my ankle to flex my foot down the last fraction of the push. I'm now using all leg and keeping the ankle static. Seems to help.

Try some other seating positions and think about ankle angle while shifting. My full size truck bothers my anckles more than either of my sports cars.
