    Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I just noticed on the www.goapr.com website that the Stage 3 kit for the Audi B7 2.0T is no longer available. Anyone know why? Demand? Issues? Something better coming?

    Thanks in advance!

It's not just software. It included all hardware as well.

Probably demand. It's been out for a while.

Plus with JHM about to release their stage 3 kit, I still bet it's demand and the margin they made on the kits.

People don't want to pay APR prices for stuff on a B7. You can buy a B7 for the cost of that turbo kit if you don't mind high miles.

The OP clearly stated stage 3 kit which, like most turbo kits, includes a turbo.

Not sure the exact reason the pulled it, but they still have their K04 option.

If you are looking for something bigger with more potential than a K04 our kit is available on presale (PM me), and will be officially available here soon!

To answer your question. It's probably demand. At $5,800 with all the other options out, that's alot of coin. They haven't updated their software, for the kit and thus K04 cars are now able to pull similar performance due to newer tunes at a much lower price point. I've talked to APR, and it doesn't seem like anything new is coming out. They have moved onto the B8, their tunes for the K04 alone on the B8 are impressive, and they have an EFR kit coming soon. But there was never really any issues with the kit, it was a reliable "off the self" kit, that was plug and play.

Thank you guys for the replies! I have had the kit installed on my B7 for about 2 years now and have been very happy with it. I know there were some rumblings around the forums in the past that owners of the Stage 3 kit could opt in at getting a bigger turbo / newer tune, but never heard anything else about it. I love the power gains from the kit, but would love to potentially explore other options to add on to what i've done to the car thus far.

I know I can invest in getting another car, etc -- but with the amount of money I have put into this car, and it's my favorite Audi body style.. I would love to see if I can push it just a bit harder. The only things I haven't done via APR wise is the piston upgrades (engine internal upgrades).

given that the Stage 3 turbo was just a gt2871R (I believe, could have been a 3071 I suppose) if you want more power I would think about going with a custom tune. The hardware APR sold with their St3 setup was pretty top notch, but the software is quite old and likely very conservative. Tuners are much better at wringing power out of FSI motors now than they used to be when APR's kit came out.

    Edit: yup, from this link:

"Representing the latest in turbocharger technology, a Garrett GT2871R Ballistic series turbocharger is the only choice for this premium turbocharger system."

I would also look up United Motorsports. Their tunes are supposed to be quite good and I'm pretty sure they've got a gt281r-ish turbo tune that's superior to APRs.

You could even bolt on a gt3071 and squeeze even more power out of the engine.

My thought on the APR Stage 3 kit is that they did all that they could with the power while still being conservative on the stock internals. What are your thoughts on trying to squeeze more out of it without adding internals?

It's all about avoiding a huge torque spike down low (that's were our rods get flexible....). I venture JHM's STGIII offering will have more power than this kit, yet it's still on stock rods. So if a current APR STG III owner wants more power without changing hardware, they could looking into a custom tune. So in short, is there more power to be had safely without internals?!? YES. Remember, this tune is "almost" 10 years old.

    ^^ this.

And I'm not saying the tune isn't great simply because it's old, but think about it this way. The FSI platform was brand new in 2005. APR is usually first out the door with a solid reliable tune. In the decade since then, tuners have learned tons of new techniques and strategies for how to get good power out of these engines. I wouldn't necessarily say the same thing about a 10 year old tune for the 1.8t platform. That engine has been around since 1996 (or before?) and it's still a very traditional engine layout, nothing groundbreaking, nothing brand new aside from variable timing.

The FSI introduced a number of new technologies and management systems that changed the game a lot. And required lots of relearning. It's only fairly recently (last 3 years or so) that tuners have really been able figure out the fueling for us too so I think a decade later APR's tune has a lot left on the table.
