    B6 S4 to 2.7T swao

After about 6 months of looking for an engine to put in my 05 S4 and trying to sell it, I'm thinking about putting a 2.7t in. I posted the car in the for sale section here for one last chance, but my mind is almost made up. Does anyone have links to build threads of a S4 4.2 to 2.7t swap. I've only seen the 2.7t swap guide which was informative but i'd like to see some more info.

It's about 95% there in the DIY. The rest will come to you as you do it and immerse your self in the process. google will also link you to swaps in various threads.

How much are you looking to pay for a good 4.2? I'm contemplating simplifying a couple projects and just throwing the built 2.7t I have into my S4 avant. The engine runs fine, aside from the usual oil burning. Timing chain was done 20k ago at the dealership by the previous owner, who apparently had no issues with spending that kind of coin at a dealership. There is no rattle at all, and it doesn't smoke.

    Assuming it's a BBK.

A few questions: have you scoped the cylinders to identify scoring? if so, do you have pictures? Also, how much millage does the engine have on it?. If the millage is low and there is no major scoring, you might ask around 5,000 USD. If scoring is the only issue, then the value of the engine turn key might be around 3-3.5k. I'm basing this on my analysis of the market. There are not a whole lot of engines available, but most people are looking for a BHF for millage and timing system reasons, which will probably drop the value of your BBK.

It has 116k on it, and I have not scoped the cylinders for scoring. I was actually expecting to get less than what you quoted, so $3-4k would be great. Also, I thought the B6s had the BHF in them?

I do not believe so, but I could be wrong. Maybe a 2005.5 car, but I thought B6 S4s were built with BBK. I was under the impression that B7s were the first implementation of BHF.

Do a google search for the B6/B7 S4 4.2L V8 BBK/BHF and tell me what prices you see. haha
    You may be surprised.

I mean, if the engine is not complete turn-key and is in garbage condition you might only get 500-1,000 USD. I'm assuming that is not the case here.

I think the general consensus seems to be that BHF is North American engine code for both B6/B7. However, I know I have seen our 4.2 in a B6 here in CT with a BBK sticker. So I guess it's safe to assume we will never know the true answer... lol

So your engine may be worth even more if the cylinder walls aren't scored. Maybe your oil consumption is gasket, check valve and pcv related?

Gaskets are good, but the seller told me his mech thought the check valves were the issue and said he had scoped it. I just rarely take a seller's word for anything unless I know the guy.

Don't the later model B7 block have upgraded guides compared to the early B6 BHF's? I believe that may be the only real difference.

Some people would say that this is the case. But what year/month did it start? And where are the diagrams that show the change in the guide(s) and/or system? And I can think of at least two 2008 B7 owners that have had the center guide fail...

Either way. If the cylinders in your block are in decent shape your engine would be worth a nice chunk of change, especially to some one in this forum.

Then you got a smoking deal. They go for double that here, and usually not in the greatest of shape.
